All I really want to hear personally at this point is an official release of “Who’s Gonna Take Us Alive.” Anything else that comes out would be a bonus.
Thankful for this being bumped. I had not known they were intentionally skipping this year. Was just listening to the Please To Meet Me box daydreaming of whatever comes next. Can't wait to hear what's next!
By my count, there were at least 20 tracks recorded for Hootenanny. Of course, there could be more: HOOTENANNY: 1982-83 Sessions
Ten CDs filled with songs at least one member of the band knows at least half the way through. But there were a lot of great versions they did finish. Bob singing a smoking Paul-less (he was on strike) version of Roundabout . . .
Also: I would think Mats fans would be okay with box sets with outtakes that were not complete takes of songs.
Anyone know how few tracks were used to record this one? Any other vocal takes? As classic a song, sound, and 'single' as Color Me Impressed. Seems to me somewhere between a guide vocal and a keeper? Just an an incredible tune.
I guess I meant it sounds like the band is mixed in mono and the vocal is panned left, right. Almost seems mixed like some 1960's stereo recordings. Was wondering what options it might could be remixed in if so desired, and if that's the only or best studio vocal take for the recording, other than a concert take.
LMAO, apparently this was sold as their merch when they toured in 1989 (the headline tour before opening for Tom Petty).
I wish I had bought that shirt at the time (though it would have been reduced to a rag long before now.) IIRC, this was their first ever official tour t-shirt. On the back we’re the band members on $10, $5, $2, and $1 bills.
Keeping an eye on any price reducts online for Sorry Ma deluxe. I revisited the 2019 iirc, color vinyl of Tim cut by Ian Sef... iirc and listened from start to end. Began on Side 2 for a change. Some solid bass guitar sounds there. Then tried a side of For Sale, Maxwells. Rock & Roll...
The one thing re: a potential remix, that stood out to me, fwiw, when listening to the Rhino remaster of the album on colored vinyl, was the reverb used on the drums when Tim was recorded/mixed. The other thing was some of the mixes seemed to me very centered - quite mono-esque. I really enjoy it just as it is, but a combination of those two things were noticeable to me.
I've been going through tapes for what's next since early this fall. Some wild stuff has been found, and (again) I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised by what we have up our sleeves. Here's to 2023 and bestowing these gifts upon the fans (upon which no **** shall hit).
Jason, You might not be able/allowed to answer and that's understandable. But has any thought gone into acquiring/rereleasing Chris Mars catalog? or Tommy's solos?
Not as of yet (or Paul's for that matter). Maybe one day as we have a few more Replacements albums to get through first.
Pleased To Meet Me was the first Mats album that didn't grab me (back at the time it was released.) Glad for the reissue because I discovered just how great an album it is. I still am left cold by Don't Tell A Soul though.
Multi-tracks? Or hmm...is the 'no poop' a hint! I can't believe its going to be 2023 already. I think. It's been a quick few thousand years.
Reposting this from the other 'Paul is my neighbor' thread There's a rumor that Paul has a new album completed... https://twitter.com/austintolin/status/1593378088561229825?s=46&t=jHhPxt-RspznCbwu1c7tRA&fbclid=IwAR2SMIIPd1VxPitRw5FJQeMBYPBswZmRXiHekeA8aWf7PGajimzHc33kUIk
Just give me every note he recorded in the 2000s and I'll be happy. Solo Basement era best Westerberg era.
