So what is in store for Vivid that you have the secret knowledge of?

They are trying to get a foothold in the US market, and have a very expensive speaker that is loosely based on some of the techology
of the early B&W Nautilus speakers..

    Very pretty speakers though...

We saw some drawings of the new Nautilus based loudspeaker. Nice curves. :righton:

Yes of course it influences opinion, but Lees isn't reccomending that everyone buy McIntosh gear, so I thought you would be excited!! ;)

No. I'm able to make judgments based on sound regardless of whether I know the people behind it. I think you have to be independent minded. In any event I don't write reviews for publications. I just use the stuff. :righton:

I see. Well, in my field, I don't make friends with the bands, nor do I take anything from them such as food, drink, etc.

Also, I don't kiss *** to the record labels.

A lot of other mag editors go outta their way to do the above.

Yes, I do get free cds and get comped to concerts, but that is to give you the reviews. My judgment is not based on getting this free stuff.

I consider my ethics to be pretty strong.

Aha...so like you I can separate my opinion from outside influences.

I have two friends beside Tom who were reviewers at the show. I have seen how they get much more knowledgeable in fact by getting to know dealers and importers as they each bring valuable insights to bear. I think the best reviewers learn how to filter out the sales pitch and learn about the things that do matter sonically.

Hmm...that may be true, but you have to be very careful not to get swayed by the dealers, importers, and manufacturers.

    We're just human, you know.
