I offer a similar service for dim television, videotapes, and DVDs. Ill-placed lamps and sunlight through windows won't stand a chance. $25 for a house call.

    Even worse than this.

"Once inside the Sonic system, Norberg does three very light passes through the acclaimed No-Noise software, to remove tape hiss. Multiple passes allow for more noise reduction without the artifacts that a single pass would induce. He also widens the image a bit and will do a bit of equalization to add back any sparkle that may have been lost to the noise reduction processes. All of these operations are done within the Sonic Solutions workstation. If any touch-up EQ is required, this is automated as a desk session and applied as the material is transferred out to the 1630 master. Sony's Super Bit Mapping II is used to reduce the word length of the material from 24-bit to 16-bit. Finally, every project is archived to Exabyte 8mm tape at 24-bit for posterity."

I'm not going conform with this guy (he makes a big noise for earning some bucks!), but remember:it's diversity that keeps the world going round, not uniformity.

    Jason,

I only hope you posted something to couter this maddness and gave them a link to this place. And, make sure you add a link to Bob Ludwig's site. I hope you didn't just leave it be. I mean, if even ONE person is saved from the LOUDNESS doctrine, it will have been worth it.

All car CD players should have a dynamic range compression button. Why ruin the software just so it can compete with road noise? Heck, after the dynamics are smashed for the sake of a 10dB RMS boost, it will be virtually indistingushable from road noise anyway.

Sorry to dig up this four-month-old thread, but according to this quote:
This is assuming that you have a basic stock car stereo inside a US domestic car. The real power output of such basic systems has not come anywhere close to keeping up with the advances in audio technonogy! Most of those basic stock systems put out less than 20 real watts per speaker! Couple that with the car's acoustics and noise, and your effective power output of a stock basic car radio drops to less than 10 watts total!

Sadly, that exact "pea-powered" basic stock system is what most mainstream new car buyers settle for. :( :shake:

(Keep in mind that I'm discussing only the basic car radio/CD player which comes standard with mainstream domestic and import cars. The standard audio system in luxury cars and optional systems in many mainstream cars are much more powerful.)

The logical solution is to include a compressor on the equipment, NOT build it into the music itself. But, noooo, that's too sensible.

And in the case of those puny-powered radio/CD players that most mainstream new-car buyers settle for, the logical solution would be to make the audio compressor permanently engaged (read: cannot be defeated or turned off at all whatsoever), not just integrated onto or into such units.

In case you're wondering, I dug up this thread during a search for the word "Feinblatt."

That's good to know - we can search all posts with "Feinblatt", but not "Who's Next" :D

That's because the search engine in the Forums software automatically excludes words that are too common, and does not recognize apostrophes. The words "Whos" and "Next" are too common, and thus will be ignored by the search engine.
