They had a short window of opportunity to use Greg Lake's lyrics on his one tour with the band:

And now you find yourself in 83
The disco hotspots hold no charm for me

    Elvis' Return To Sender:
    No such number,
    No such zone...

Zones were replace [well, superseded really] by zip codes.

Chuck Berry's Too Much Monkey Business:
    Working in the filling station,
    Too many tasks,
Wipe the windows, check the oil,
    Check the tires,
    dollar gas?...

And from the same song [although definitely telephonic references]:
    Pay-phone, something's wrong,
    Dime gone,
    will mail.
    Oughta sue the operator
    For telling me a tale

    Chuck Berry's No Money Down:
Well Mister I want a yellow convertible
    Four - door de Ville
    With a Continental spare
    And a wide chrome wheel
    I want power steering
    And power brakes
    I want a powerful motor
With a jet off - take
    I want air condition
    I want automatic heat
And I want a full Murphy bed
    In my back seat
I want short - wave radio
I want TV and a phone
You know I gotta talk to my baby
    When I'm ridin' alone

    I want four carburetors
    And two straight exhausts
    I'm burnin' aviation fuel
    No matter what the cost
    I want railroad air horns
    And a military spot
And I want a five - year guarantee
    On everything I got
I want ten - dollar deductible
    I want twenty dollar notes
    I want thirty thousand liability
    That's all she wrote

Oh, is that what they were singing?
I always heard something much snarkier,
"...some disco hot shot's on the job for you."

    Well ,never mind...

I know it refers to the miracle of the "long-distance call" but to call our times in 2020 - pandemic, chaos and all - days of miracle and wonder would seem out-of-kilter.

This is no longer TRUE! Polaroid cameras have made a comeback.

I know DS was into "cut-up" and "found poetry" techniques in his writing. I've always wondered how he got the "Gentlemen take polaroids" line/title.

Was it in an ad somewhere for Polaroid cameras. Would be wild if it was something he gleaned from a Japanese airline in flight magazine or something.
