Didn't look like Disney, didn't look like Capt. Sullenberger, really doesn't look like Mr. Rogers. But he'll probably play the part fine.

Yeah, you best tread very carefully on anything Mr. Rogers. I don't know that we need a biography, there are lots of interviews out there and of course many hours of his show that do more than enough to let us know who he was and why he did what he did.

I suppose, if the movie is going to be made, Hanks is probably the best choice.

I was thinking the problem with this is that Hanks is 61, an age when much of Rogers' career was behind him.... but then, I see the film is about a specific interaction with a journalist, which happened when Rogers was older than Hanks.

Tom Hanks is a good choice, I can also see Steve Buscemi or William H. Macy play the part.

Well, let's hope he makes for a better Fred Rogers than he did Walt Disney...

William H Macy, yes, but I have a hard time picturing Buscemi as Mr Rogers.

Will be quite hard to pull off. Imitating/parodying Mr Rogers has become so common since early SNL days. ('Can you say ____? I knew you could' is a cheap-laugh cliche tossed out at neighborhod parties.) If he (or anyone) doesn't nail it perfectly, it could seriously backfire.

It's like how 'to be or not to be' has become the hardest phrase for any actor to recite because even the most well-intended deliveries can cause the audience to laugh.

Good point, and of course, Mr Rogers is such a beloved figure that any actor will be scrutinized.

Eddie Murphy's portrayal is still definitive...

I hope it brings to the public eye a little of what Mr. Rogers stood for, i.e. equality and fairness. We need a little of that right now.

What will really be interesting is a Land Of Make-Believe with a budget behind it... hmm.

Fred Rogers was an excellent pianist who wrote all the music used in the show. The local jazz band sometimes plays an arrangement of the theme.

He also had a '36 Ford that was very similar to my grandfather's '35. Grandpa never put seat belts in his, though.

The sad thing is that I only know that because I remember seeing it on the show 40 years ago. :(

I was loitering in a dollar store a few years ago when I pulled a book of Fred Rogers quotes from the shelf and started reading and was amazed that some guy I vaguely remember from PBS 30 years ago was so profound. I bought the book and still enjoy picking it up every now and again.
