Oh my God! I'm shocked. This is the first I'm hearing of this. Just saw him this past summer. I can't believe it

Too bad. He was one of the greats, and in my opinion, his later stuff outshone his earlier work.
    RIP.

    You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel free

Run away, find you a lover
Go away somewhere all bright and new
    I have seen no other
    Who compares with you

    You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free

Run away, go find a lover
Run away, let your heart be your guide
You deserve the deepest of cover
You belong in that home by and by

    You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worry
You belong somewhere you feel free
You belong somewhere you feel free

Terrible terrible news, so sad. I've enjoyed his music for almost 30 years. May you rest in peace TP.

This obviously pales in comparison to what happened in Las Vegas but I am *truly* rocked ... my better half was absolutely shattered when I told her. So gutted by this - RIP, Tom. Words honestly fail.

To many, 'Only Rock and Roll' was a cliché, Tom reveled in simple rock music. A big loss for anyone over 40

Too young! I always thought he'd be one of those that would be touring into his 80s.

I am glad I got to see him live a couple times. He left us with so many outstanding songs that won't ever be forgotten.

Love Tom Petty and he was still making great albums until the very end. His material plays like a Great American Songbook. Absolutely fantastic stuff throughout his whole career. I always said there is something wrong with a person if they didn't like/appreciate Tom Petty's music.

    LEGENDARY.....is an understatement
Drove down from Maine to Boston to try and see him at a small club in 1977 - sold out.
Made up for it by seeing his first performance in the big leagues - No Nukes Concert at Madison Square Garden.
RIP and thanks for SO MUCH music
