You have to love record companies. It's like the quote from the movie "Casino". "It's all been arranged just for us to get your money.”
I've just got my preorder in. Amazon UK Pre order link.... Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions) [VINYL]
I think after all the well deserved flack Warners & the TP estate received, they've sat up and eventually done the right thing for fans outside of the USA who couldn't afford to import the vastly overpriced 9 LP or 5 CD sets.
TOM PETTY Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions) Announced Mar 03, 2021 Announcing Finding Wildflowers (Alternate Versions), curated with help from his loving family, bandmates and collaborators—will be released on April 16 via Warner Records. The tracks, which were previously released on the limited-edition Super Deluxe 9-LP version of 2020’s Wildflowers & All The Rest, will now be available on limited edition gold vinyl at TomPetty.com and indie retail, CDs and on all digital streaming platforms for the first time. A black vinyl release will follow on May 7th. "You Saw Me Comin',” a previously unreleased song and recording from 1992 and the final track on the collection, is premiering alongside a video directed by Joel Kazuo Knoernschild and Katie Malia. Reflecting upon recording “You Saw Me Comin’” for Wildflowers, Heartbreaker Benmont Tench notes, “There’s this kind of longing in the song, in the way that he wrote the chord structure, the melody and the lyrics. It’s wistful, and it would have been the perfect way to end the disc.” For more information please visit: OFFICIAL WEBSITE: www.tompetty.com FACEBOOK: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers TWITTER: https://twitter.com/tompetty?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author
I pre-ordered at Bull Moose so that when I come to my senses, and realize that I don't need a third pressing of this, I can cancel without any hassle. I've already got the 9XLP and 3XLP. This is... redundant.
Is this all material that's already included on the 9xLP? Seems so, right? Time to cancel that impulse order I just put in.
unless the CD version is priced at $100, I'm going to be pretty happy I got the 4CD version and then this rather than $150 for the 5CD
Well this news ******* ****** me off. All that pantomime to get the 5 CD set with the "exclusive" CD and at an exorbitant cost and then it turns out we could have had it all for under £50.
Oh goodness I just realized it's the two extra LPs in the 9LP set I still have not had the time to sit down and listen to this monster. I forgot what I even bought.
So much for these being exclusive but I'm not surprised at all given the overall handling of this reissue. A real case of milking everything they can get from it.
While simultaneously slapping the face of anyone who paid the extra $100 for the "exclusive" disc. Doing right by one group makes another group feel like suckers. Of course in recent months we've gotten official "Tom Petty Valentine's Day lolipops" so nobody should be surprised that his heirs are grabbing every penny they can.
Ugh, this is ugly. I can tolerate spending extra on a premium edition, but wasting money is a hard pill to swallow. Now it looks like I could have gotten the whole set and all the music for less than half the money. All coming from the estate of the man who fought so much against LP price increase. Gotta pay those lawyers, I guess. Well, I'm happy that at least more people will get to hear this.
Welp the comments in this forum of “why couldn’t Neil do with Vol. II what the Petty estate did with the Wildflowers reissue and tell us what all of the available versions would be upfront” sure don’t look so good now in hindsight.
Ugh, the Petty Estate is making my stomach turn. I am grateful for this release and since they want to generate all kinds of coin, I am hopeful we will get other great music releases in the future, but between the loliops and candles, I can really do without (as I think most people can, or am I really off base with that?)
Personally I think if you're experiencing anger and resentment because part of the the contents of an expensive exclusive music release you bought is now going to be more widely available to your fellow fans, you should reexamine your life choices.
You can be happy it is available to more people and still be upset that you were basically mislead by the original release. There is absolutely nothing wrong with both emotions. People are capable of a multitude of emotions that might be in conflict with one another, so maybe you reexamine your petty judgement of others. There was no need to be condescending there.
Exactly. I'm not angry, but I don't like being mislead into wasting money. $300 dollars was a significant expense for me and I wish I could have had the choice of spending $100 in November and a few more now to complete the set instead of being pushed into paying extra for a few months into something exclusive that it wasn't.
The "Finding Wildflowers" disc (or 2 LP) from the Super Deluxe TP website exclusive version of the release.
