I always enjoy making chronological b-sides/rarities compilations for all of my favorite bands. I tried for Tom Petty, but I'm not sure if I got them all. I used various 45's and CD singles mixed with the Playback disc, but I think there are a bunch of holes in this compilation. These lists will be helpful! Thanks.
You can also add the European Greatest Hits version of 'Last Dance With Mary Jane' with the alternate line. And the alternate radio version of 'You Don't Know How It Feels'.
That's a darn good track list. Those first four in particular, the Sirus XM exclusive songs, are deserving of a proper release at some point. In terms of polished, studio stuff that's out there and not already mentioned, I'd add "Little Girl Blues" (Mojo outtake), "Playing Dumb" (Hypnotic Eye vinyl-only track) and the alternative version of "Sins of My Youth" (so different from the Hypnotic Eye version that it feels like an entirely different song). "You Come Through" and "God's Gift to Man," both from Playback, would qualify too.
Heard just a bit of Jason Isbell's guest DJ show on Sirius XM yesterday while running errands. He ended the show playing one his live covers of "American Girl" which sounded great. He also mentioned he had met a few of the Heartbreaks through the years and said they were all very down to Earth. "They make music, they make art, then they go home and make dinner."
The bulk of this cd that I made is actually quite easy......most of the songs culled out of the recent 2 sets.....The Best of Everything and American Treasure. Add to that a few YouTube rips, a bootleg and the Highway Companion Special Edition. I didn’t use Playback on this CD due to the sound levels which is why I will make a part 2
Again folks, these sets were made for my personal use and love of the music. These are not for sale or trade
File under the header of "if anyone cares": I put together the following four disc compilation shortly after "An American Treasure" was issued. I concur that the sound levels on "Playback" are tricky to work with (anyone find any solutions?). I've been trying to mix my own "home brew" of Tom Petty/Heartbreakers tracks since the days of audio cassette tape, so this is the latest attempt: PROGRAM 1: 01. Surrender [An American Treasure] 02. American Girl [Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers] 03. Hometown Blues [Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers] 04. The Wild One, Forever [Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers] 05. Anything That's Rock 'N' Roll [Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers] 06. Fooled Again (I Don't Like It) [alternate] [An American Treasure] 07. When The Time Comes (alternate) [An American Treasure] 08. @McCool two things: 1. What a beautiful compliation! I've been saying that you are the #1 authority on Tom Petty, and a list like this pretty much reinforces it. 2. this post should help you on getting Playback at a much more reasonable volume: Tom Petty in High Rez Coming? After reading and following the instructions in this post, it is revealed the mastering of Playback is actually quite a beautiful sounding and dynamic sounding set and on par with the hi-res releases from 2015.
As was hinted at up the chain, the promotional film for Tom Petty/Heartbreakers' "For Real" has begun transmission today! You can check it out over at YouTube and there is a link in the TBOE thread. There was also some press done regarding the promotional film including an article by Rolling Stone which features some commentary from Adria Petty who compiled the promo film. Included within the commentary are her thoughts regarding her father's passing and she also addresses a lot of the noise that was put about around a month ago while speaking about future Tom Petty/Heartbreakers archival issues. Here are the two articles that are currently making the rounds: Rolling Stone: Watch Tom Petty’s Poignant Posthumous “For Real” Video – Rolling Stone NPR: (on the 30th anniversary of "I Won't Back Down"): 'A Song For Any Struggle': Tom Petty's 'I Won't Back Down' Is An Anthem Of Resolve

There was an announcement about that and a blue Full Moon Fever last November but then the pre-orders quietly disappeared. Where did you pick it up?
Bullmoose Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Damn The Torpedoes (Red Vinyl) Hurry if you are interested, haven't seen these anywhere else.
I take some heart from this article. Sounds as if the expanded Wildflowers might yet see the light of day, and maybe this year. I don’t think there’s another release on the horizon that I’m looking forward to more. It could become one of the greatest archival cd boxes of all time. I know that sounds like hype, but if what is unreleased matches the transcendent material we’ve already heard...
