My iPad reminds me that this film “releases” tomorrow on YouTube, which means either a film being released is releasing something as yet unspecified, or “release” has become an intransitive verb without having the manners to tell the rest of the English speaking world.

They're releasing the film on You Tube tomorrow. I authorized it as it's my birthday tomorrow.

well if you have tom petty radio there is a Sirius broadcast of an interview with the director and roundtable with Mark F and David Frick tomorrow being released. So the release is releasing then. ;) I was lucky enough to get to listen in on the recording and it was well done. One interesting fact is there were less than 4 hrs of footage to work from but clearly, Mary loved working on this documentary.

I just finished the YouTube premiere of this documentary; Wonderful and moving. Unlike other archival docs I felt that this one was complete without too much repetition. I know I've seen some things before, but there was a lot of things to digest here. Also keeping the original recorded aspect ratio, instead of making a faux widescreen version, was a very wise and tasteful move.

    Conclusion? I dare say: Exceptional.

Just watched roughly half of the movie before getting back to work. Good stuff so far, lots of archival studio footage and commentary from Tom. Some new interviews with key players, but nothing overbearing. Looking forward to the second half later.

Kudos to the family for releasing this on YouTube.

They’ve taken some heat on the forum for some stuff, pricing, etc.

Whether you like the film or not, this is a nice touch.

I just finished watching. It's a solid "making of" style documentary. It's definitely worth checking out.

I reviewed this upthread positively and I was disappointed by some naysayers about this doco. Each to their own I guess. Great to see some positive posts coming through.

Were the Johnny Cash sessions filmed as well?

I guess the ship has sailed on any chance of the Wildflowers 5.1 being released physically… Ryan hinted at it way back when the box was released but I can’t find any reference to it anywhere since then.

I streamed it on Apple the other night in prep for watching this and would HAPPILY shell out serious money for a Blu-ray with the surround mix and this film included. Seems like a no-brainer.

    Watched it on YouTube.
    Decent Documentary/Making of flick.
Nice way to spend a bit of an afternoon.
No great reveals, but some cool performance/recording/rehearsal footage.
I had low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.
I'll pull out the 2 cd set and give it another spin.

    I watched the documentary today.
Tom reveals himself both simple and complex, like his songs.
This documentary is more about human relationships than recording and that's surely why i liked it.
Some very emotional bits along the way.
    Watch it.

Yeah, I really don't get the hate that was spewed upthread. Watched it last night and enjoyed it, as much as any other Petty-related docs and performances I've seen over the years. Was it revelatory? No. Did it have to be? No. What it did was make me sad that he's no longer with us and able to make more music.

Heck, I’d contribute my skills, such as they are, at no cost if it meant getting a Tom Petty Museum up and running.
