I REALLY REALLY REALLY want a copy of Grant Green's Feelin The Spirit--is there anything I can do proactively to assure myself of a copy? Any help appreciated! It's the only Tone Poet release I would be heartbroken to miss out on. It seems the moment they become available, they're gone
I think pre-ordering through a reputable store should work. Pre-orders usually don't appear until closer to time of release, so I'd give it a few months on Feelin' the Spirit.
I know, I should have been clearer. It's not a Tone Poet, yet. Yet @pdenny is complaining that it's gone as soon as it becomes available. Unless he's talking about every Tone Poet and not Feelin' the Spirit in particular. Either way, that doesn't happen at all. They go out of stock, yes, but not that quickly.
No, I ordered the regular 2xLP, no lithographs. It still says preparing for shipment, so we'll see. I ordered on Nov. 6, so it feels like it's been forever. Drooling over the Ornette set to come.
they are only "limited" in how may they pressed for this run, whether or not they have sold out pre-orders, no idea, but I'm guessing they won't last long
Fair enough. Don't expect the Tone Poets to be numbered. It was never advertised as a limited or numbered release, so I think expecting it might be is a bit of a stretch, at least somewhat. Personally, I couldn't care less about serial numbers. They are mostly meaningless, IMO.
I've been mostly doing orders on Amazon because the pricing has been better. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore. People seem to like Bullmoose. I also like In Groove for preorders.
udiscover seems to have the best prices if you can get in on a sale or a coupon code. the only thing is that they seem to never get restocks.
I got an audition list of titles I missed last year, streaming on spotify. How bloody good is "Oblique"!? Definitely grabbing that when it gets repress. Also added to list is Duke Pearson's The Phantom, which has some lovely "Bitches Brew" type vamp moments going on.
As anticipated, I didn’t have the opportunity for a long listening session to the new Ornette box, but I was able to listen to At the Golden Circle Stockholm Volume 1 this evening. I will say that I can be prone to hyperbole, but holy smokes this sounds amazing. Kevin and Joe did a masterful job on this LP. I know this is on “regular” vinyl (i.e. not SRX, Supervinyl, etc.) but on my copy the background is black. The sound is alive! This album is so well recorded and beautifully mastered that at times I feel like I’m in the front row, and at other times I forget that this is a live session since the sonics could pass for a studio recording. I can’t wait to read @scotti ’s review when he gets his copy. I think he will be over the moon. If I have a chance to listen more before Friday, I’ll be sure to share additional impressions.
