General question for everyone, how much pops and clicks do you tolerate on these albums? I was spinning Black Fire again after a long hiatus and noticed about 4 or 5 pops. I don't know if I'm being overly critical or demanding, but what so you guys tolerate as far as defects go.
They don't seem to be limited, although nothing was ever explicitly stated around it. Etcetera was certainly repressed earlier this year.
I've had relatively good luck with surface defects--for the most part, I've never heard a generally "noisy" pressing from any of these higher quality plants. When I hear a flaw, I can almost always find it visibly as a scratch or patch of non-fill, and even those are relatively rare. I have gotten one or two albums with a random loud "pop" or two that I can't locate visually--I think these have been on pressings from QRP (the one I definitely remember was Masterpieces by Ellington). I've never had more than two of those loud pops on a single album, though (and the vast majority have none). For me, I'd normally tolerate an occasional tick or pop with no problem--maybe even a very brief spot of non-fill, though I find that to be worse than a tick or pop. I'm kind of averse to the hassle of returns, so when I consider returning an album, it would normally be for an off-centered pressing with wow, significant non-fill, or a repeated click from a scratch--probably more than four repeats would get me to at least consider the hassle. Four or five completely random pops I'd probably tolerate, depending on how loud/distracting they are--but what you describe does sound worse than what I'm used to hearing on these, and if you're sure the loud pops can't be removed with a good wet cleaning, it may be a reasonable candidate for a return.
Pressing plants were shut down. They've got a lot of catching up to do. Tone Poets aren't the only in print records being affected. MoFi, AP, etc...
Of course. Delays are to be expected. And, I can wait for more to be repressed. But paying through the nose in a few months or so because I didn't buy now, is something I'd like to avoid. Hense why I'm trying to find out if more will be pressed, or if they are limited.
Not to come across as rude, but its seems like we've discussed this every few pages for months. Not limited, all will be repressed.
Fair enough. I had a quick scan of the first few pages, but did not see anything.... thought it might be easier just ask than trpll through the 465 pages! But, thanks for letting me know!
Joe Harley checked in here a bit ago to confirm for us that none of these are limited and they are all meant to be kept in print, there are just delays in repressing and printing jackets. Don’t pay the high prices!!
Most of the people selling them on Discogs are definitely flippers - most of their inventory is what you would call predatory. The might have a subscription to VMP but I guarantee they’ve not listened to one record they’ve received. They all seem to have a inventory of “unopened” or “still sealed” VMP records, not to mention MMJ’s as well.
off the record Time to time we recommend some titles off the record I can say that listening to Strata East> Charles Tolliver's Music Inc – Live At The Loosdrecht Jazz Festival I was there and then. Pure pleasure takes my money and I love it. Perfect work. Now, about the piano problems in modern AAA reissues, I wish a specialist's ear to make a listening to the following title before I buy it. 7 grand pianos !!! The Piano Choir - Handscapes Ι thank TP guys for the "intermission" - coronavirus. / off the record
If it hasn't been mentioned all remaining 2020 Tone Poet releases are listed as TBA on the BN website. Not sure if it has been like this or if there are further delays.
That’s probably just so you don’t get your hopes up when ordering through blue note and then receive your records next June.
There is a big problem in Europe with the prices... https://www.amazon.fr/Time-Blue-Not...tKeywords=blue&rnid=381035011&s=music&sr=1-13
It has been the case with every Tone Poet so far, that when first listed on Amazon for pre-order the price is about 25% higher than what the price drops to before it ships on the release date. The price will come down.
My Point of View just dropped to $32.41 on Amazon.ca https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08BDZ5H9H the other two due on Sept 25 should drop soon too.
