I agree with you and everyone else here - Midnight Creeper HAS to be gatefold! I’d be willing to pay an extra $5-10 for that necessary upgrade. I mean, the cover photo wouldn’t work at all without the gatefold - you’d be missing the front half of the cat, among other important things…
I spotted Passing Ships & One Flight Up already today in my local store here in Helsinki, FIN. Passing Ships was €60 so about 70 USD give or take. Seems pretty expensive, right? What’s the retail price of that one in the US?
Most have it at $39.99, I paid $35.99 for my copy. edit - I assume you are "Passing" on it then? It's a title I have been looking forward to for a very long time. Already have my CD of it boxed up...
It's two LPs, not one. Although it is two LPs, the music would easily fit onto 3 LP sides. I haven't heard if it's cut on 3 sides with side 4 blank. Can anyone comment on that?
I pre-ordered passing ships on Amazon UK for £46 I believe, I did that hoping for a price drop, no such luck!
I pre-ordered it during the Blue Note Shop sale for £37 including postage, but whether it will ever arrive is a different matter, I guess I'll know if I get a shipping notification this week.
Yes yes I would love a Tone Poet of Happenings as well! But please keep the series on course. Such as Don Pullen’s ‘New Beginnings’ with Gary Peacock and Tony Williams
It's Catwoman! I'll have to check this out with George Benson scratching along and Lonnie Smith in tow, it's one that I haven't heard yet. Thanks for the tip.
The reasonable "music fan" in me is like "I don't need another KoB", as I have the RKS mono cut and the mofi 45 stereo cut (which personally i enjoy). The unrationale audiophile fan in me is like "YAS MUST GET CLARITY VINYL KoB MANUAL PRESS BUILT ON FAIRY DUST VINYL"
Yeah, not a good day for me here yesterday, lol. The point I was trying to make is this. Joe seemingly broke his own rule with The Cooker. Justification? Stereo not mono. Then why not mono versions of previous MMJs, APs etc? I’m sure many here would be delighted.
I don’t think Joe ever “justified” “breaking his rule” by choosing stereo over mono. Rather, I think he stated he wouldn’t repeat Classic Records (and the others) at the outset of the Tone Poet series, when it wasn’t certain there would be a second or third year, etc. In other words, the rule was in place until it wasn’t, at least with respect to Classic Records. He still hasn’t repeated any AP or MMJ titles and I don’t think he plans to anytime soon.
Iirc from one of the Web store's description, it will be three sides. They did that with the first Charles Lloyd TP edition, too - Side D is just rough vinyl with no grooves. I really wish they would have thrown something on Side D, given that you paid for four sides. Like, throw a random side of whatever is lying around that day! Or a Shure stylus test record even! Just something! And yes, waiting for Passing Ships. The first time I heard it streaming, picking it up on vinyl became a no-brainer.
