Tool are planning to remaster and reissue all their albums for vinyl release I knew I unloaded my original Aenema for $300 for a reason.
Sold mine off last year, too. Damn thing got so valuable I didn't want to play it! Looking forward to an official non-picture disc copy of Lateralus.
Nothing wrong with the sound on the Undertow OP. Aenima isn't bad...but no sonic masterpiece. Lateralus was issued on that noisy picture disc set. Which was a huge mistake. 10,000 Days - Never owned that one The real problem was the limited pressings.
Really hope they are! But Tool time appears to be different from earth time so 'near future' could be anything.
Wow, this might explain why I literally saw Undertow, Opiate, and Lateralus in the used bin today. Someone must've read this article! Anyway, I'm looking forward to the new pressings. I'll probably buy. But am I wrong to trust my ******** detector and expect digitally-sourced, Czech-pressed, Lo-res jacket, step-backwards sound quality pressings?
Funny how Undertow went from a $12.98 list on vinyl to $29.98 in the last year without remastering...
I hope they go to the tapes to cut. It would be a shame if they used the digital for the vinyl when an analog chain exist. This is a wait and see for me.
Same. Not so much worried about digital; I know for a fact a bunch of Aenima was tracked to digital including the vocals. But I want to see what the artwork is like, as well as reviews on this great forum.
Yep, that's what I'm expecting too...will be preordering day one if I'm wrong but I expect "180g Audiophile vinyl for unparalleled fidelity" or some other variant on a meaningless marketing phrase will be the way it goes. Wasn't it Classic who cut the original parts for AEnima? If they reissue that one from the original parts they'll have done one right for sure (and hopefully a decent pressing house) "Remastered" generally doesn't inspire confidence.
Even if they remaster and cut from hi-Rez digital I would be interested... an all-analog process would be awesome but who knows. I'm just a casual fan of a few songs but I would be willing to shell out some money for their stuff well done on vinyl!
Everything was recorded to tape, if I'm not mistaken? Then dumped to Pro Tools(10,000 Day's at least)? A little extra work could really create some definitive pressings? Am I way off? I'm sure Hi Rez cuts could sound fine, but when the means is there to go big, go big I say.
Definitely a band who deserves the ultimate remastering available. Their current vinyl offerings are a bit weak in my opinion. As others said the picture disc is cool but doesn't sound great. Maybe they'll do 45rpm...
Tool vinyl sounds promising. I hope it comes true. I'm getting tired of hearing about a new album that never appears.
Correct. And that's why, as much as I want it to be AAA pressings that I'd happily pay $50 each for, instead they'll press from hi-res digital with "remastered" audio (aka brickwalled) for $40. But hey, it's 180g right!? AUDIOPHILE. Ha. I have enough faith in these guys that they'd recognize what their fanbase wants, and that's AAA pressings... but if the labels get involved...
