I'm also noticing more details in the back vocals (Parabola) and cymbals (Ticks & Leeches) as I progress through the album
I took a listen to a number of tracks on Spotify 320kpbs and it sounded like the classic Tool sound, nothing new. Then jumped on Tidal and found the same, more or less, but in lossless. I hear no mastering differences. My vinyl rip of Undertow still sounds superior, however that is spoilt by surface noise (either a noisy copy or crappy pressing). I've been listening to Tool since 1994...if these were indeed remastered, it must have been a very subtle treatment. Enough of the dilly dallying, where's the vinyl?
I've only listened to Lateralus but I'm definitely hearing noticeable improvements (see my earlier posts).
Pretty sure I’ll be on a plane somewhere over the Atlantic when the Fear Inoculum preorder opens up this Wed. I’ll likely have to pull on my network of fellow tool fans to order me a copy of the Special Packaging version. I sure as hell do not want to miss out on that!
Per Adam Jones, there will be a special packaging version (don’t know what that looks like, but I’m buying it), which would indicate there will also be a normal packaging version. Adam Jones on Instagram: “~ TOOL • FEAR INOCULUM • Title Track & Album Pre-order on Wednesday August 7th Links will be posted 2mro - Tuesday August 6th *The…”
Can't believe the turntable is idle, it's blasphemy! I have the 96/24 HD Tracks version of Lateralus playing through Dragonfly Cobalt on iPad Pro. Sounds great, but still not as good as 2xLP picture disc - except for the lack of surface noise of course. My vinyl front-end is better though, so that's to be expected I guess.
Pre-order link (live tomorrow 8 am EST): TOOL - FEAR INOCULUM (ALBUM) New track release tomorrow at 8 am EST TOOL - FEAR INOCULUM (TRACK)
That's been a pretty common talking point - I can't say for sure, but I'm guessing the physical products won't "go live" until tomorrow morning. I could be wrong, but my heart's in the right place There's also speculation that while some physical media may go up tomorrow (I think very likely), vinyl may not.
So this is like hearsay to the nth degree, but apparently a dude on reddit talked to MJK's wife tonight and she said that while she didn't know "for sure," she's not been made aware of any sort of vinyl release date, and it would most likely not launch with other physical media options. There was a screenshot posted of the conversation so I don't think it was all faked or anything. However, Adam posted on IG that they special packaging they are launching is amazing. So at the end of the day? Who effing knows. This whole release has been a bit of a cluster to be honest. Putting the pieces together is, well, frustrating. So it's Tool in a nutshell, lol.
Not a fan of posting speculation but here's the reddit post I was referring to: About as official as it gets : ToolBand And at least among that group of fans, zero mention anywhere of a vinyl release
They actually need to remix all of their albums and put them out on CD with blu-ray 5.1 surround sound mixes. Steven Wilson, I hope you’re reading this!
"a CD in a tri-fold Soft Pack Video Brochure featuring a 4" HD rechargeable screen with exclusive video footage, a USB charging cable, a 2 watt speaker and a 36 page insert book and MP3 download card" An mp3 download card? I mean why not Hi-rez download card? If you are getting an HD screen for the video, why can't you get an HD audio file? ***Edit*** Of course I just pre ordered it. hahaha
