While the 90s and onward may not be as exciting for me as all the previous decades, there are still plenty of favorites. I'm probably forgetting some and I had to narrow this down from many more movies. A much better decade than I thought!

    90's:

    1. The Big Lebowski (my pick for favorite film of this decade - "the Dude abides!")
    2. Pulp Fiction (Reservoir Dogs was just as good, but I had more fun watching this one)
    3. Fargo (a deserved Best Actress Oscar win for Frances McDormand with a pretty good screenplay courtesy of the Coen Brothers)
    4. Cold Comfort Farm (a quirky British flick technically made for television, which thankfully got an international theatrical release)
    5. Groundhog Day (possibly Bill Murray's greatest performance, and maybe even Harold Ramis' greatest film)
    6. Europa Europa (based on a true story, which I'm glad was filmed and released during its subject's lifetime)
    7. Ready-to-Wear ("Prêt-à-Porter")(great to see Sophia Loren reunited with Marcello Mastroianni, but the all-star cast is eye candy)
    8. Clerks (a breakthrough for Kevin Smith, and a film that captured the "grunge" or "slacker" spirit of the early 90's)
    9. Singles (I lived in the Pacific NW during that time, and still do, but always liked this more than the bigger Sleepless in Seattle)
    10. Office Space (showcases the kind of characters I think we've all run into during our working lives, played to comedic effect)
    11. Strictly Ballroom (slightly escapist, slightly surreal, somewhat musical, and definitely re-watchable)
    12. The Nightmare Before Christmas (not quite an all-time holiday classic yet, but I think it's getting there)
    13. A Goofy Movie (less popular than The Lion King, but it's deeper than most Disney fare, and remains enjoyable for me)
    14. Beautiful Thing (one of the best "coming out" movies, but I'd like subtitles on its DVD to better understand those thick British accents)
    15. Sling Blade (a great film from Billy Bob Thornton, who was nominated for Best Actor, and won for Best Adapted Screenplay)
    16. The Wind in the Willows (the last Monty Python-esque film I enjoyed, directed by Terry Jones, and released here as "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride")
    17. The Full Monty (seems like I have a lot of British films on my list, but I can't forget this one; a bit silly, but charming)
    18. Pleasantville (innovative use of color/b&w film, but I mostly liked seeing Don Knotts again in a fairly major supporting role)
    19. Velvet Goldmine (not "truth" at all, but rather a wry spoof of Citizen Kane set during the glam rock era)
    20. Chasing Amy (Kevin Smith strikes again, with a funny spoof of Jaws thrown in, even if that bit was fairly superfluous)
    21. There’s Something About Mary (the evil power twin in my mind to #20; that zipper scene gave a lot of us guys shudders)
    22. The Sixth Sense (works best when you've never seen it, but is still re-watchable even after you have)
    23. Unforgiven (a deserved Oscar win for Clint Eastwood with great support from Gene Hackman, who also deservedly won)
    24. Jumanji (I'm not a big fan of Robin Williams, but this is an enjoyable enough popcorn flick, though I haven't seen its remake)
    25. Best In Show (you don't need to be a dog lover to appreciate this, and it's certainly less stuffy than the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show)

I like to see a list that is 100 percent different than mine. Election and Virgin Suicides almost made my cut.

Great movie, but I believe it is 2000. Waiting For Guffman, if you haven't seen it, is 90s and even better IMO!

Ah, you're right, so it is! Well, if you do a 2000s "Top Movies" and beyond, I probably wouldn't be able to get 25 titles, so please consider that as my final entry, and thank you for starting these threads.

I'm probably stopping here! I don't think I could do a 2000 list that would be very interesting. If anyone else starts it I would maybe try. I really just wanted to do the 30s through the 50s but figured I would keep it going! Glad you liked these threads! I was just picking it up from MortSahlFan who started the 60s and 70s threads.

Wow, that's a very tough list.

    Casino
    Fargo
    Forrest Gump
    Goodfellas
    Groundhog Day
    JFK
    Jurassic Park
    LA Confidential
    The Matrix
    Office Space
    Pulp Fiction
    Reservoir Dogs
    Se7en
    Shawhank Redemption
    Silence of the Lambs

    The Usual Suspects

I mastered Dances with Wolves, Indian Runner (for Sean Penn, who was very nice), Basic Instinct, Postcards from the Edge, In the Line of Fire, League of Their Own, and a whole slew of others, so those were also important as well to me during this decade.

Finally! The 90s! As much as I am critical of many musical trends from that decade, it was an amazing time for movies. The following is just my personal selection of course, and I guess the list of runner-ups would be very, VERY long ;)

Until The End Of The World
    Glengarry Glen Ross
    Reservoir Dogs
    The Straight Story
    Office Space
    The Usual Suspects
    The Celebration
    I Stand Alone
    Freeway
    Barton Fink
Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas
    La Haine
    Natural Born Killers
    Se7en
    A Bronx Tale
    Buena Vista Social Club
    True Romance
    Thelma & Louise
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
    Total Recall
    GoodFellas
    Trainspotting
    Good Will Hunting
    Rushmore
    Happiness

And yes, this is incredibly tough. The 90s were an amazing period for cinema.
