Went Beatles, Stones, Kinks and Who just because they're by far my 60s faves, even if I'm not wild about any of those albums.

Picked Led Zep for #5. Thought about Cream, Jimi and Blind Faith...

    My big two would be:

    The Velvet Underground & Nico
    Music From Big Pink

    After that maybe:

    Kick Out the Jams
    The Gilded Palace of Sin

    Then maybe
Are You Experienced? (though I'm not sure it's aged so well), or
    The Doors

    2. Doors
    3. Led Zeppelin
    4. Floyd
    5. Cream

    Other:
    1. King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King (funny, a lesser KC album was included in the 70s "debut" poll but this greater landmark debut was missing here)
    2. The Jeff Beck Group - Truth
    3. Argent - Argent
    4. Soft Machine - The Soft Machine
    5. Jethro Tull - This Was

    Overall:

It just dawned on me that I missed an enormous favorite debut of mine...

Pretties For You - Alice Cooper 1969

It serves me right for subconsciously thinking of them as exclusively a "70's group". :p

So, in order of the ones I return to the most, allow me to amend mine to:

    1. Led Zeppelin
    2. Surfin Safari - The Beach Boys
    3. Pretties For You - Alice Cooper
    4. The Zombies
    5. The Doors

What a wild and bizarre mix! :)

john lennonist There ONCE was a NOTE, PURE and EASY...

    Doors
    Beatles
    Hendrix
    Zeppelin
    Blind Faith

I love the Kinks (how kan one not?), the 'Oo, Yardbirds, Beach Boys, Cream, Grateful Dead (not on the list for some reason), etc., but they had yet to find their voice (at least one that appealed to me) until later releases.

Bearing in mind that I haven't heard the debuts by The Yardbirds, The Zombies, The Thirteenth Floor Elevators, Blue Cheer, The Beach Boys, Spirit, Blind Faith and The Kinks, the only albums on the list I really enjoy are the ones by:

    Yes
    Deep Purple
    The Monkees

None of those would make my top five though. I think I'll go with:

The Byrds - Mr Tambourine Man
    Crosby, Stills & Nash - S/T
    Fairport Convention - S/T
Poco - Picking Up The Pieces
    Caravan - S/T

Given we're talking about albums with at least elements of rock, I've left out some real folk & singer/songwriter favourites. My actual top five would include one of the above plus the debuts by Simon & Garfunkel, Al Stewart, Euphoria and Gordon Lightfoot.

Hoodoo Man Blues - Wikipedia Jr. had done a bunch of recording for singles before this, and as a sideman, but apparently it's his first issued LP and yes I know it's blues, but it rocks just the same.

The first four for me were quite easy. I don't know if you could get more groundbreaking than The Doors, Are You Experienced, VU & Nico and Please Please Me (maybe that one isn't as groundbreaking, but it is The Beatles after all).

The five spot was close between Pink Floyd and Zeppelin. I love Zeppelin's debut album but I went with Floyd on the fact that Zeppelin eclipsed their debut with Led Zeppelin II, released the same year.
