    Er...that's it for me.
I realise I'm fairly alone on this, but as far as I'm concerned nothing beats the angular, tight pep of those early tracks.

An interesting variant on this poll would be - Top Cure albums beyond the ones that everybody lists. Or would we simply be ranking the bottom ones?

I think it keeps up all the way through. The title track is right up there with Plainsong. This album is their masterwork.

I was not trying to put down that album. I understand why people condider it high ranked, and i for sure think its one of their greatest albuns. But i personally think my positive view on the album (and maybe of others) is quite influenced by the quality of the first 2 musics.

I came here to see how many listed Disintegration as a favorite. I knew it would be practically everyone. I love the album, but I just don't think it's top five.

    1. Seventeen Seconds
    2. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss me
    3. The Head On the Door
    4. The Top

all of the others I might like a song or two (or none in a few cases)

I don't really like the albums that are often considered the core of the Cure's sound (Faith, 17 Second, Pornography). I guess I tend to like their pop material better but even then there are lots of those types of songs I don't like either (Hot, Hot, Hot, Love Song, Lullaby, Fascination Street). On Disintegration I love Plainsong, Pictures Of You, Closedown and Untitled, the others I could leave but I wouldn't want to live in a world without those four songs.

I guess I’m really lucky because I only have two albums, so far ;)

When I was in my teens I wasn’t a fan, but I had a few of their songs on compilations with other groups. Recently I’ve gotten deeper into music, and through sites like this have come to enjoy more context with my music. I think I listened to Close to Me a year ago and really liked it. Then I found disintegration :uhhuh:. I freaking love it. Found live versions of Plainsong and Pictures if You on YouTube...

So now I’m in discovery mode. Picked up Kiss Me x3 on CD the other day for $1. Planning to get a book on them too.

Nothing like discovering what you previously missed in life and truly enjoying it for the first time.

I first discovered the Cure in 1985 when a friend had an extra ticket to "the Head on the Door" tour in Boston. I became an Instant Fan, and spent the next six months buying all their records and spending a small fortune to track down the singles for their b-sides. (I was a little angry when all the b-sides were released on the Standing on a Beach cassette in the summer of '86!)

Because I was such a Super Fan at that point in my life (teenage years), maybe it explains why their subsequent work never really did much for me. I find "Kiss Me" just okay, "Disintigration" a bit of a bore (sorry) and everything after "Wish" dreadful.

Here's my Top Five, which I still listen to quite a lot:

    1. Seventeen Seconds
    2. Head on the Door
    3. Japanese Whispers (I don't know why this is often overlooked; it's not a singles collection, it's a compilation of all their work over a relatively short period of time - just like a regular studio album is (at least that's what i tell myself)
    4. Pornography
    5. Three Imaginary Boys

    Hi Guys!

At least you let me play all The Cure Albums I have on vinyl these days to choose my TOP 5. :)

That's quite difficult, altough I have all albums on vinyl except live and mixed ones until "Wish":

    1) Seventeen Seconds
    2) Pornography
    3) The Head on the Door
    4) The Top
    5) Disintegration

I am surprised I am the only one who listed Show. Paris, another live has been listed a few times. Both are great live records and both are recorded during the 1992 Wish tour and completely totally different. I always liked how The Cure did different set list every night. Not like for instance Morrissey who pretty much has the exact same set list his whole tour except a song changed here and there.
