Five Live Yardbirds Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd Cheap Trick S/T debut The Rubinoos S/T debut Truth - Jeff Beck
Led Zeppelin: Led Zeppelin Jimi Hendrix: Are you Experienced? Van Halen: Van Halen Guns n Roses: Appetite for Destruction Pearl Jam: Ten
Are you refering to The Bee Gees Sing and Play 14 Barry Gibb Songs? I much prefer their second album Spicks and Specks, and I love their third one First, which is one of my absolute favorites by any band
I'd not heard of Blue Water Highway but given I really enjoy the others in your country-rock list, I thought I'd give them a blast. What a great band! Albums ordered and on the way!
Songs of Leonard Cohen Simon and Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence Joni Mitchell - Song to a Seagull Phil Ochs - All the News That's Fit to Sing The Spotnicks - Out-A-Space
U2 - Boy R.E.M. - Murmur The Daysleepers - Drowned in a Sea of Sound Weezer - Weezer (Blue Album) The Police - Outlandos d'Amour
Crosby, Stills and Nash The Cars The Doors Jackson Browne - Saturate Before Using Elvis Costello- My Aim is True
I forgot this one Derek & The Dominos - Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs It looks like I'll have to drop The Stone Roses. Wow! Limiting it to five albums is hard.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Are You Experienced Can't Buy A Thrill – Steely Dan Van Halen Boston Foreigner
In fact yours is a correct answer to the thread title. Although not being their first album, is a '1st' album as required
Steppenwolf - S/T debut Rickie Lee Jones - S/T debut Dire Straits - S/T debut Tracy Chapman - S/T debut Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells I would have listed Paul McCartney - McCartney, but it's actually his second album. The first was The Family Way, which is a soundtrack. Personally I never viewed it at his truly first album.
Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) - Storia di un Minuto (1972) / Beautiful and brilliant debut by one of the best Italian prog bands. Anglagard - Hybris (1992) / Brilliant debut by Swedish prog band. Full of tension, moments of introspection, beauty, all wrapped up in a fresh take on classic prog. The album most often credited with leading the 2nd golden age of prog starting in the early 90's. King Crimson - ItCotCK (1969) / Not much needs to be said about this... Magma - Kobaïa (1970) / While not quite pure Zeuhl yet, the debut by Magma is still a monster of a recording. Christian Vander's love of Coltrane is more evident on this than following releases. Not quite jazz, not quite fusion, and not quite prog, just great! Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Mounting Flame (1971) / My favorite by them. Absolutely terrifying levels of musicianship, but without sacrificing emotion. Others that could make my list: Brand X - Unorthodox Behavior ELP - S/T Iceberg - Tutankhamon Happy the Man - S/T Gentle Giant - S/T Henry Cow - Legend (or is it Leg End?) Banco del Mutuo Socorsso - S/T Echolyn - S/T
Ha! I didn't know I already replied to this thread back on post #29. My list is almost the same, except Magma replaced ELP from my 1st list.
Van Halen - S/T Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - S/T Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard of Ozz Guns N' Roses - Appetite for Destruction The Cars - S/T
OK, only one of those qualifies as there's only one band! They're still my favourite five debut albums! My favourite five debuts by bands would be: The Spotnicks - Out-A-Space The Rolling Stones (same) The Beatles - Please Please Me America (same) The Ventures - Walk Don't Run
John Grant - Queen of Denmark Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen The Sisters of Mercy - First & Last & Always Motley Crue - Too Fast For Love Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction I could go on - for whatever reason, my favourite artists' debut albums are often... usually... my favourite of their records.
