How do the Genesis Black Triangle(s) sound?

    Aaron,

I have a soft spot for Huey Lewis and The News - Fore! (well, I was young and impressionable at the time :D) but the CD I've heard (it wasn't a remaster if there is one) is horrible. Very unnatural top end like an "Aural Exciter" was way over used! Dose the black triangle version sound any good or is this just the way the master sounds?

As for the Bowie CD - I have an original Japanese pressing of Let's Dance made for the UK and it sounds awesome! Certainly preferable to the stereo portion of the SACD layer on the hybrid disc release. I guess this is the same mastering as your black triangle disc.

    :)

Sorry for the long wait. I'm not certain I've heard your exact pressing and I don't own the Live Bullet, but my black triangle of The Distance sounds fantastic compared to any other CD pressing of it I've ever heard.

Hi Malc, Huey Lewis Fore! is fantastic on the black triangle and sounds nothing like the N. American 1st masterings. I promise, you'll like this one.

You got very lucky with that Bowie mastering as I know the Japanese 2nd pressing, the CP43-5772 Eternity gold CD, is the common digital edgey/bright mastering that we've had post the triangle and your UK pressings.

Great! I was sure the vinyl LP I had years ago sounded fine but was beginning to doubt my memory. Time to start looking for that black triangle edition.....

My Let's Dance CD I have is certainly one of the very best sounding CDs I've ever heard. I love it and I don't even like the whole album that much after the first 3 songs!

    :)

If you like Kim Carnes Malc, I can highly recommend Mistaken Identity catalog #CP35-3018.

I also recommend the Kim Carnes Mistaken Identity black-triangle disc. The Let's Dance disc is excellent also. In all seriousness, most of the black-triangles discs are excellent. EMI-Japan really had its act together.

I just found the black-triangle version of Diana Ross Why Do Fools Fall In Love (catalog number CP35-3033). Has anyone heard it? I have the Japanese pressing made for release in the U.S. and Europe (catalog number CDP 7 46023 2) for comparison.

Could have gotten this one from a pawn shop a couple of years ago for $6 and passed on it. :realmad:

    Haven't forgiven myself either.

I own Invisible Touch and ...And Then There Were Three. The Invisible Touch is great, The ...And Then There Were Three sounds a lot like the West German Target version.

Have you compared it to the Blue Note Limited Edition that came out in Japan in 1986? It was catalog # CP32-5205. I have not heard the MFSL, but I did compare it to the RVG remaster and found the limited edition to be much more natural sounding. Of course, that wasn't hard to do.

    No,
I haven't heard the CP32-5205 Version. That is the one with the blue and white label, no?
I 'm pretty sure that one came out in 1986, where as the CP35-3070 version came out in 1983 or 1984. Does the CP32-5205 have 5 or 6 songs on it? I haven't heard too many good things about the RVG editions.

I own the same two (Invisible Touch & ...and then there were three... are there more?) that Aaron does and they sound great IMO.

The label is blue and silver. It is the 6 song version, with Allison's Uncle on it.

I recently got the Black Triangle Peter Gabriel So CD for$20 (That's $10 plus $10 for shipping) It sounds amazing! It has to be the best sounding version with In your Eyes in the middle of the album.

I paid about the same price for my copy a couple of years ago. In comparing it to the SACD, I found that they sounded quite similar. The SACD is louder, but I cannot say that it's better.

Can anyone confirm that 20VD-1073 Genesis 'Land of Confusion' Ep has the Black Triangle design?

I know that you're talking about the small Black Triangle on the right hand side just below the center-point on the older Columbia pressings and it's a different animal as you can see from the post/link above.
