If the first 7 albums are to be remastered, would "Past To Present" be just another 4 songs?

Luke said it's "all leading up to 2018 with the 40th anniversary". He never said we'd have to wait until 2018 for the remasters. I don't see that anywhere.

It hardly needs remastering. I think it sounds great as it is.

It probably doesn't mean either of those. But I'm sure they'll be available in hi-res elsewhere.

Would be nice if XIV were to be remastered (not much chance thought) as well, its a good album under the murk.

So long as they are released in 24/192 I'm happy, but to wait until 2018, Steve has given too much notice. On the plus side it's good they are to tour again, saw them in Glasgow (May 2015) it was a good gig. Hopefully, Toto will play Glasgow again, though it looks like a wait until the next World Tour. It's pretty annoying this side of the pond to keep hearing about tours only to discover it's US only.

I hope you are right but on his own homepage (when does Toto upgrade itś own not-so-impressive homepage? :)) it says:
"11 TOTO (Sony) albums remastered! Out 2018...."

I have most, if not all, of the original TOTO releases on LP and CD. In my opinion, regarding the early albums, the only two discs that truly need addressed are "Hydra" (as it has some very quiet passages that don't work equally as well on CD, as they did on vinyl) and "Turn Back" (which has always sounded like it was recorded in mud, on vinyl or CD. That recent "Rock Candy" reissue only turned the mud louder and it didn't address what was the real problem, which is that it needs a "remix", whether Luke feels that way or not). What the hell does he know anyways? Let's face the truth and that is while we TOTO fans have actually played these old recordings over and over for years, Luke probably only listens back to them, when he needs a reminder when the band is about to tour, or when he is in a studio, like he is now to remaster them. I can't see Luke actually sitting down on a frequent basis, at his home sound system and pulling a TOTO album to play, like the rest of us do. So Luke, if you're reading this, please do these right for the FANS and not for YOU!

Forgot to add, that I actually found a used copy of that Stereo/Multi SACD of "Toto IV" about four years ago, for $7 bucks! The SACD disc was misplaced in a "standard redbook" CD case, but I just wanted the SACD, so it didn't bother me that the booklet was wrong.

That multi-channel mix is not one of my favorites to be honest, as it doesn't really have a lot going on in the 5.1 mix. I don't need a 5.1 mix to have radical speaker changes, but nothing bothers me more than when a 5.1 mix only uses the rear speakers for adding more ambiance, as if it's a live recording, rather than to actually place an instrument or background harmonies back there. The idea of 5.1 to me, is to make the 5.1 soundstage represent me actually sitting in the middle of the studio as a band is recording around me, with whatever is going on, going on in their proper place. Many 5.1 mixing engineers incorrectly attempt to make the 5.1 mix soundstage as if the listener is sitting in front of a band on a stage and they are just getting the extra reverb and such bouncing off the side and rear walls. That approach is ok for a truly "Live" concert performance, but not for a studio recording, again, in my opinion.

the booklets the same as the redbook for a number of the old Sony single layer MCh SACDs (3+3, Ship Ahoy, Toto IV, Blow By Blow, etc) is the rear inlay of your Toto IV anything like this (w/SACD logo & Surround info etc)?

The following link shows exact what my Front & Back inlays look like, if you click on the "more images" button inside the link under the album cover.

    https://www.discogs.com/Toto-Toto-IV/release/2786079

I found it weird that my front inlay shows the "compact disc" logo, instead of having an SACD logo.

One more thing, that while just looking for this SACD of "Toto IV", I forgot that I also have the original 2-channel only SACD, with the slip cover of "Hydra".

Looks like they just carried the old cover art
Journey-Escape, no front logo. Lyric book mirrors the 1996. It does have a SACD stamp on the black tray x2 .DSD/SACD blurb's on the rear art

ah right that's the more common Toto IV MCh SACD variant (but it's still uncommon!) US single layer MultiCh SACD you have. the pic I posted (that'll teach me to grab the first pic that comes to hand in a Google search!) was of the rear inlay of the later Euro Hybrid MultiCh SACD (most uncommon!). as I mentioned Sony were a bit cheap back in the day and just rehashed the CD booklets for a number of their Single Layer SACDs, Toto IV among them. anyhoo.. curious if there's a different unreleased Scheiner 5.1 of Toto IV on the horizon (sounds like it! :D ) either way I'll be picking the new one up for sure, always good to have a backup of some description even if it's the same as the prev released 5.1 on that MultiCh SACD.

Check the corners of the disc tray....the Compact Disc logo that usually appear on the corners are replaced with the SACD logo.

Perhaps this bit of info should go to the "Jewel Case History and Exotica" thread:

I guess I can say that I'm cautiously optimistic about these new remasters so to Luke, I implore you - please don't disappoint us!! Now I do reckon that Journey should come out with some 24/192 remasters as well.

I like the ES mix of Toto IV, Rosanna sounds great in surround and the mastering on the 5.1 mix is pleasant. Still great news if the delivered product lives up to what most of us see the comments in the first post as inferring. Can't imagine ES would get involved with a big reissue project that was going to be DR5-slammed.

    Ken.e. Spinning music since...

Just saw To to live at Casino Rama in Ontario Canada. They sounded good and played a good cross section of their career. Music from the first 4 albums is what I wanted to hear the most. They really didn't play much from those albums. 2 from the first, 1 from Hydra and 4 from IV. Nothing from Turn Back which was disappointing. I would love to see side one of Hydra live, it's an album side that still sounds fresh and I appreciate when I play it every few years. I even like the cover art which fits side ones music so well.
A good remix of Turn Back would be so welcome it's such a muddy sounding record. I always thought the mix is what held it from having at least one hit.
Perhaps a Blu-ray set like the last Chicago Quad set would be the way to go with replicated album art. That way they could do some 5.1 and stereo mixes in 192/24 DTS-HD Audio and include CD or a download code.

They can add unreleased stuff like Kilimanjaro and American Girl, plus Goin' Home. I assume all the XX songs will be spread out across the remasters.

The album will feature brand new previously unreleased music along side newly remastered classic tracks worked on by Elliot Scheiner & Gavin Lurssen and his team. This is likely the result of shot hearing. Of course, the verses are just out of range but the choruses are just trashed because he can't hear anything anymore. Sad because his instrument is in really good shape. If you can't hear, though, you can't sing.

I think he's always sounded like that live, IMO. And there are lots of musicians with hearing issues who can still sing. Bobby's just a belter, not a proper singer, technique-wise. He had better control over it in the early Toto days, but even then, it was a crapshoot. He was the opposite of a Steve Perry type, despite their similar vocal ranges...Bobby just went for the note, and if he hit it, great, if not, well... He had a great voice for singing lead on stuff like "Girl Goodbye" and "White Sister," but those choruses, with the absolutely perfect harmonies, were always going to be a crapshoot. Even in the early days, Toto always had one or two extra people onstage to help out with that.
