Tribute Albums That Don't Suck

This one is pretty good.

 

The only various artists tribute album I own.

 

The George Fest done at the Fonda Theater in LA, on the other hand, sounds great from what I've heard.



Yes, it's Weird Al. And yes, he does a great job of it.

 

I used to have a Syd Barrett tribute I thought was pretty good. Beyond the Wildwood IIRC.

I’m Your Fan: The Songs of Leonard Cohen — excellent collection by a lot of talented players. Includes this nice version of I Can’t Forget by the Pixies.

 

Love the first Nativity In Black Black Sabbath tribute album. Second one not so much. Supernaut!

If I were a Carpenter: A tribute to duh! The Carpenter’s done by a bunch of early to mid nineties grunge bands which is a lot of fun.

 

Trisha Yearwood's recent "Let's Be Frank" Sinatra tribute album was exceptionally well done.

For some reason, I'm also thinking of a Louvin Brothers tribute album from the early 2000s that I remember liking a lot.

And Return of Grievous Angel is superb.

 

The multi-artist cover of Sgt Pepper, Sgt Pepper Knew My Father, is worth a listen. It features som great versions, including the definitive reading of "Within You Without You", by Sonic Youth.

I've Always like this one, if you consider it a tribute album. Great tunes by Pearl Jam, Soul Asylum, & Matthew Sweet, among others.

 

A very well deserved one. Victoria is an amazing songwriter and a wonderfully sweet person.

 

Merle Haggard's Bob Wills Tribute entitled A TRIBUTE TO THE BEST DAMN FIDDLE PLAYER IN THE WORLD(Or, My Salute to Bob Wills) from 1970 was very good. It also included some members of the original Texas Playboys.
