Tribute, update, alternate . . . whatever, Cyrus Chestnut's take on Vince Guaraldi's A Charlie Brown Christmas is excellent and extremely well recorded. Not just a redo. Lots of inventive arrangements that make it a great companion to the original. The harmonica and violin driven Skating is a good example:

I absolutely love this one. What makes it really great is the artist on it you would never expect on a Elmore James Tribute. So many great musicians playing on this to.

theyre definitely few and far between... though you wouldnt know it after reading this thread. typically they are dreadful.

the only one that comes to mind that is exceptional is the louvin brothers "a tribute to the delmore brothers"

Does a tribute to Saturday morning cartoons count? Schoolhouse Rock Rocks. There is some good stuff in there...

Love that Pomus record. Some great performances on it, especially Irma Thomas on Must Be A Better World Somewhere.

I agree! I think it's a stone cold classic. The BB King performance is superb, and Lou Reed singing This Magic Moment is one if the coolest things I've ever heard. And The Band singing Youngblood is an eccentric gem.

Thanks for this one. Didn't know it existed.

I came here to post another Merle record. I consider this one to be a Lefty Frizzell tribute. And it's a great album.
