Mike & Bruce aka "Beach Boys" by license only. Not the real Beach Boys by any stretch of the imagination whatsoever.

It's a serious question. I thought he mostly toured solo and his bands existed in the studio.

I don't think examples like that count.

A band that carries on with only one original member - or even none - doesn't truly count as a "tribute band".

You might view them that way in spirit, but I think "tribute bands" need a clear delineation from the original...

There is possibly a Blues Brother's tribute band in your town. But the Lehigh Valley's version, the Blues Brotherhood has often has Tom "Bones" Malone and sometimes "Big Lou" Marini. Tom did horn arrangements for the original Blues Brothers and both were part of the Saturday Night Live band. Tom was the horn player in the CBS Orchestra who often wore a loud outfit, not unlike Doc Severinsen in the Tonight Show band,an 18 year gig that paid the bills. At one show I asked him to sign an LP and he was quite gracious.

A tribute band of a tribute band, to some extent:
"The Orchestra" feat. Mik Kaminski and Louis Clark, former "The Electric Light Orchstra Part Two" feat. Mik Kaminski, Bev Bevan, Louis Clark and Kelly Groucutt.

He recorded a live album "Stand In Tbe Fire" with a backup band that was a bar band somewhere in Colorado(?) that played a lot of Zevon's songs. Don't know if they toured too but it wouldn't surprise me.

Chicago and The Mike and Bruce Show would be better and more accurate, less misleading, too.

    Agreed.

Dead & Co does not constitute a tribute band. They are some of the surviving members carrying on the band's canon. The same with Queen + Adam Lambert. They are the remnants of the bands who continue on a linear basis.

To answer the OP properly, Tom Constantine, who played keyboards for the Grateful Dead, has played with several GD tribute bands. Mick Woodmansey, Bowie's drummer with the Spiders from Mars, plays in a Bowie tribute band.

Foreigner devolving to the point where there are no true members at all, is yet another category and rather sad at that.

  19. I wouldn't disagree but the original topic is about tribute bands with one original member of the band.

Two Frank Zappa ones: Project/Object has included multiple Zappa alumni (Napoleon Murphy Brock, Don Preston. Ike Willis, Ray White), as has Dweezil Zappa's Zappa Plays Zappa (shows have included White, Steve Vai, Terry Bozio, George Duke, Flo and Eddie, Jean-Luc Ponty).

  22. I agree with Colin @Oatsdad really a tribute band can't have an original member by its definition. Still, some interesting choices. With band turn over being so high just about any band one could think of with as little as two members could be called such. A tribute band is just a replica of the original and you can't really be a replica if something original is thrown in the mix, can you?

Myke Trying Not To Spook The Horse

Only original member Gary Rossington has referred to the band as a " tribute band " himself, which I'm always reminded of when some current fan feels he has to get defensive, when the term is used.

Doubt he's doing it for the money, guess he just likes to play, always seemed a decent guy.
