I liked the Jawas, little desert scavengers that they are...

The Ewoks are okay in small doses, ROTJ should have been a little lighter in featuring them...

    Jar-Jar, no words are necessary...

Wouldn't the forth one be part of a quartet, not a trilogy?

I still prefer 'Star Wars' to the other three of the original trilogy... Of the prequels, I only seen 'The Phantom Menace', and never seen any of the others.

Iron Man 2. A real stinker.

1 and 3 were both excellent.

While its easily the worst of the 3 it does have Scarlett Johanson so there is that.

I'd thought you were making your own joke! (Shoehorning some other series into this thread just for yuks.) Ha!

    At any rate:

I was in same boat until I saw the recent The Death of Michael Corleone. I was shocked how it all came together and really satisfied - miles ahead of the original release, which I doubt I'll ever watch again.

So count those 3 and you've got the best Trilogy there is (unless you count "the mob trilogy" of Goodfellas, Casino, The Irishman - which are all perfect IMO, exploring different themes in each, I could go on..).

But that's how insane these news cycles have been lately.

They released a GOOD version of Godfather III and it barely made a blip.

I don't get the notion that "Coda" fixes "GF 3".

It's basically the same movie - the changes are pretty minor - and it doesn't correct some of the major problems.

It's a minor improvement, mostly just because it's shorter!

Agreed. The first one - especially put into the context of when it was released - is shocking and stunning. An absolute tour de force with a killer ending. Not a lot of wasted frames in that film.

Thunderdome suffers a bit given the '80s gloss, however it's a phenomenally well-shot and edited re-telling of Shane on nitromethane. To me it's the most rewatchable of the three films.

Road Warrior has its moments. Great opening sequence, for example. But the story falls apart in the middle and drags horribly. It somewhat redeems itself towards the end, but by that point I've lost interest. I remember the TV commercials calling it, "Apocalypse Pow!". Nope, this is a poorly re-told western with a couple of decent action sequences and a few memorable quotes.

The less said about the atrocity that was Fury Road the better.

I don't feel as strongly negatively about Mad Max 2 as you do. I still think it's far superior to its legion of imitators, and I have a lot of affection for that type of movie. It has terrific stunt work and some unforgettable moments. But ultimately, it's 'just' a relatively polished, quirky exploitation movie of its time. You can tell it was closely inspired by Death Race 2000, which I find much more entertaining.

The first Mad Max is something else entirely, more akin to Taxi Driver or Cruising than the other Max movies.

I think Fury Road is a towering masterwork. Exhilarating, humane, and operatic.

I agree, and perhaps I'm a bit harsh on it given how much I enjoy the films that bookend it.

I'd add Vanishing Point to that list, and maybe elements of Deliverance.

For the life of me I can't understand how anyone with any affection for the first three films can stomach this movie. I guess that's why there's 31 flavors....

I will never understand the praise for that movie.

It's basically a Michael Bay movie, but all its fans want us to believe it's somehow intelligent and insightful and innovative.

No - it's really just a Michael Bay movie! :shh:

Trying to think of some others and all I can come up with are trilogies where I only like the first movie, which is the case for The Hangover, The Matrix, Friday, the original MIB trilogy, etc...

Calling Fury Road a Michael Bay movie is an insult to Michael Bay movies.

I like "Hangover 3" better than the first 2!

    I also like "MIB 3" a lot.

The 2 "Matrix" sequels are clearly inferior to the original, but they're still watchable, IMO...

To be clear, I don't hate "Fury Road", as it has enough idiotic action zing to be watchable.

But holy moly, all the praise for it boggles the mind!

I'll give it the stuntwork, and its commitment to practical effects. And that's about it. I doubt I could sit through it a second time.

I love the Psycho movies too. Those sequels definitely underrated.

They made a Psycho 4 a few years later. It went straight to either HBO or Showtime. A prequel told in flashbacks. It gets ****ty reviews but I liked it. Haven't watched it since the 90s though.

II and III bring back memories of spending the night at my grandma's and aunt's on weekends and watching those movies on HBO and Showtime.

We also watched horror movies such as Gates of Hell, The Burning, and The Boogens.

Anyone here watch The Boogens recently? It doesn't hold up.

I was going to list The Omen movies. I loved the first two but couldn't get into The Final Conflict. I just found out they did a fourth one. That must have flew under the radar.

National Lampoon Vacation movies. Two great comedies with a terrible one in the middle. (The Vegas movie is technically not part of the same franchise as here is no National Lampoon in the title and John Hughes is not involved.)

I really disagree with you both. It blew me away. I got home and told my wife it’ll nominated for an academy award. She thought I was crazy.

I love back to the future and back to the future part 3 but except for the cool future scenes at the start with the hoverboards and self tying laces and such I'm not all that keen on part 2. Same thing with the Hobbits. I freaking love the battle of the five armies and the desolation of Smaug, but think an unexpected journey is a long boring slog. And though they don't hold up particularly well in general I think, I've always found the fellowship of the ring and the return of the king to be far better than the crap fest that is the two towers.
