    It was the episode where Mr. Roper was the surprise villian of the week, which was revealed when he purposely broke the fourth wall by mugging for the camera during the arrest.

    The whole announcer opening credits was a carryover from radio. By the 1970s, that was pretty much dying out and was not a common practice anymore, like it had been in the 50s and 60s.

    There was a short lived but good series from Quinn Martin called-The New Breed[1961]with Leslie Neilson in his serious days,a detective show.

    Hank Simms--so iconic, they had him do the same thing for Police Squad!, including announcing the wrong episode name each week, and the name of the guest star who gets killed during the opening credits.
