Just ordered this cd via discogs finally at an affordable price £30 ($40), including postage and vat ... it should be the 2015 reissue ... if anyone already has this could they say how i check what i've been sent is legit rather than a "rip-off" ... seller has very good rating but is based in Russia hence my sceptic view ... to get from a japan seller i was looking at another £15 plus ($20) incl the postage and vat so thought i'd take a chance , paid via PP so any big issues i feel my money is safe
An UPDATE ..... surprise surprise they don't have it .....so they refunded me via paypal (the way i'd paid) so not a scam but still rather disappointed ...
Hello, I made a comparison of Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio's Misty for Direct Cutting album between vinyl (pure analog), MQA CD, Amazon and vinyl (from the 11.2 Mhz DSD master). Each version has its own personality depending on the technology used. You can find the comparison with measurements (DR, Spectrum, waveform...) and samples here.
Noticed this has a Pre-order for Direct to Disk DSD to vinyl cut. anyone else on line to get this? I am a little confused, wasn't there a direct to disk live recording done AAA as well? Or was it recorded to DSD -> cut to vinyl.
Here was the big comparison page: Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio – Misty for Direct Cutting Review (LP Analog and from DSD, MQA-CD, Streaming Amazon)
I've only recently discovered Tsuyoshi Yamamoto, and I have to say I'm totally hooked. What a musician, and the TBM recordings are absolutely stunning. I have managed to buy What A Wonderful World on SACD and Misty on 24k Gold disc but I'm really struggling to find Midnight Sugar on either 24K Gold CD, or preferably SACD. Has anyone got any ideas where I can buy a copy, or is it as rare as the proverbial hens teeth !!!!
i keep my eyes on sales on SHF also the bay and discogs plus amz uk (as they sometimes have a 3rd party sellers)
Thanks for the reply Swann. I am constantly looking on Amazon and Ebay, but no luck. I managed to What A Wonderful World from CDJapan, but all his other CD's are out of stock. Forgive me but what is SHF?
I just noticed that CraftsmanRecords are dropping reissues of many TBM albums including the Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio works on Vinyl on the 25th, Tomorrow! Midnight Sugar [Limited Release] Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Vinyl (LP) But all of its been sold out in pre orders over at CDJapan, I got the very last Girl Talk there. PlayAsia seems to have some but I cant seem to check out for some reason.
Heres the Discogs listings finally: Yamamoto, Tsuyoshi Trio - Midnight Sugar Yamamoto, Tsuyoshi Trio - Misty Yama & Jiro's Wave - Girl Talk Suzuki, Isao Trio / Quartet = 鈴木勲 三 / 四重奏団 - Blow Up = ブロー・アップ Isao Suzuki Quartet + 1 - Blue City Teruo Nakamura - Unicorn
Yupp, how it goes on Discogs. To be fair, these are pretty expensive to import, costs me at least 50 - 70$ to get, so if I were to sell mine right away I guess I would need a minimum of 90$ to earn anything.
and im not surprised the 3 that Impex did are still available there. Those are very tempting just to have 33 versions of
I got into Tsuyoshi Yamamoto after joining SH and getting hooked on jazz. Fantastic albums and for the most part the CDs and SACDs have excellent SQ. I've found the ones I bought from Venus did not have very good SQ, very loud. I have most of TY's SACDs with Autumn in Seattle being one of my favorites. Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio - Autumn In Seattle The holy grail of TY's catalog for me to find was the St. Elmo CD. I was fortunate to find one in mint condition from Japan. It wasn't cheap but well worth the investment! Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio - St. Elmo I have the Midnight Sugar TBM CD, Impex Gold CD and the SACD. Well worth seeking out! https://www.amazon.com/Midnight-Sug...ocphy=9002507&hvtargid=pla-827230315643&psc=1 Steve Hoffman Forum. Thanks to seeing this thread I'll be listening to some TY this quiet Sunday morning .
TBM and Venus share the same kind of motivation to follow the Blue Note sound. IMO what made them apart was just the technology of each time.
