"Original Phatmats. All Phatmats are the brainchild of the design team at HASVISUALS - High quality visual graphics at a reasonable cost!!!! Each Phatmat is produced using the highest quality 1/16" cotton/poly blend mats and technologically advanced heat transfer methods. The designs are 8" x 8" centered on a standard 11.75" black mat."

Just bought a felt one with a psychedelic design on it. Two questions!

    1) Will that psychedelic design "goo" off onto my records???
    2) Never used a turntable mat before, besides the rubber mat that came with the turntable that is. Should I use this mat alone on the platter OR on top of the stock rubber mat?

    thanks!!!!

    Try it...

It's the only way to find out if you like it. It might change VTA. As far as the design is concerned, if you rub it gently does it come off? If not, it's prob okay.

Alone on the platter (it replaces the original mat).

Two mats would make the record waaay too high.

Gary- that's what I thought, but I have been hearing differently from other sources. This mat IS only 1/16th of an inch "thick". Hmmmmmmmmm.

I've got a VPI Scout that doesn't come with a mat. Should I get one and which one should I get?

The VPI turntables are designed with an acrylic platter that doesn't use a mat, so if you lay a mat on the acrylic platter, you're defeating its purpose. Of course, you can experiment and stick with whatever sound you prefer.

Gary- you were right! Sounds great! May just be my ears, but it sounds a little, well, cleaner, than with the rubber mat!

I was right? You sure about that?

    Glad it worked out! :)

    Tweaking can be fun....
