Tyler, the Creator - New Album “IGOR” May 17

I can’t wait! “Flower Boy” is one of my all-time favorites, but I wonder how “IGOR” will be.

I’m super excited too! I’m worried it won’t be out on CD, I’m not seeing it anywhere but maybe it’ll be in stores tomorrow

 

I doubt it’ll be in stores tomorrow. Physical releases take time...

 

Flower Boy was on CD in stores on release day I remember

 

Oh. Well, if there’s no CD preorder, I doubt it will be available tomorrow. There are more and more major label releases these days that skimp on the CD as it’s a dying format while vinyl and digital are growing...

 

Yah that’s a bummer. Tyler’s music is not really something I need on vinyl, for his stuff I just prefer CD. I suppose if there is no CD I will just buy it on iTunes. Overall I’m pumped!

Listening to this on Apple Music. Great production. I'd say my favorite tracks so far areNew Magic Wand and A Boy Is A Gun.

This is the fist Tyler, the Creator album I've listened to. I've had Flower Boy on my shelf for a few months but haven't listened to it yet.

 

Wow, "Gone, Gone/Thank You" is great.

 

Just listened and loved it. Might just be better than Flower Boy. It's the logical next step for him, he's building on his "only raps when he needs to" concept more and more. So personal and expressive. Production is his best yet. Amazing album. Preordered on vinyl on his website yesterday

 

I'll be listing to it on the YouTube tomorrow...

Thought "Cherry Bomb" was AWESOME, though....

 

The production on this thing is immaculate. From the credits it looks like Tyler self-produced the entire thing. What a talent.

 

I think IGOR is indeed better than Flower Boy, as much as I love that one. IGOR is extremely personal, and I love the full narrative that it has. I'm preordering vinyl and tshirt as I love this album so much. Tempted to order the CD too tho...

 

I haven't decided whether Flower Boy or Igor is better yet, but I do think Igor is much more thematically concise. There's not a word wasted on Igor, unlike Flower Boy (only on occasion, it's still a near-perfect record). Then again, I think Flower Boy was a more powerful artistic statement and I did find it more lyrically compelling most of the time. Overall I agree, amazing albums

 

I was surprised by the sound of IGOR because was expecting more of a rap album, but I still enjoyed the new sound upon my first listen. It sounds to me like a combination of Flower Boy-style jazz- rap and neo-soul mixed with dark synth-pop and a toned-down vocal presence. The songs seem very good after one listen, but I’ll need some more time with it before I can compare with his previous work in that department. I can say with certainty that IGOR is better than any of his work aside from Flower Boy IMO.

 

Tyler tweeted that people shouldn’t go into IGOR expecting a rap album...

I think IGOR is a rare 11/10 album. Tyler isn’t there all that much, and when he appears, he rarely sounds like Tyler as we’ve previously known him. It’s like he’s distancing himself away from himself, and I love it. If Flower Boy was his OK Computer, then IGOR is his Kid A.

 

Flower Boy is amazing in it's own way! Listen to it when you have time! But I think I may enjoy IGOR more.

 

I've been very slowly making my way through my entire music collection (I'm on 2001 right now), so hopefully I'll get to Flower Boy soon enough. I'm excited to listen to it. Hip hop is very new to me, but I've heard some great stuff so far.

 

It looks the physical release of IGOR won't be out for another three months or so. Tyler's website says it should ship in 12 weeks. I guess I'll just keep listening on Apple Music and then buy the CD when it gets released.

 

I ordered the limited vinyl with alternate cover along with the GOLF IGOR shirt.

 

Changed my profile pic to the IGOR cover because it's an 11/10 album that needs to be recognized everywhere on this forum.

 

Giving this album a try on Deezer now. I wouldn't be caught lifeless in a t-shirt with that visual though
