You get an A. All the other Beatle mono listeners get an E. Turn in your Beatle badges.

If it's a typewriter then it was probably played by Mal.

If it's a tamborine, then it was green and borrowed by the Lemon Pipers. I'm clearly out of ideas...

Regardless, it's a nice touch to a fantastic song.

It's not the tambourine, at least, not a tambourine being struck in the usual way.

Leaving this to one side for a minute, what was the first Beatles song to contain an actual sound effect? There’s Paul’s dog noise at the end of I Feel Fine which probably wasn’t even deliberately in the mix, what else?

    Yellow Submarine?

    Edit: or, perhaps, Paperback Writer!

Assuming you mean deliberate instances of sound effects, I can't think of any before Yellow Submarine. But I'm probably missing something obvious.

I found this video and it is interesting. Does Ringo actually play the tambourine as well this way on Paperback Writer or is this guy just playing both Ringo and John's parts?

:p A tape loop of Paul making a fake laughing sound, played back at double speed.

Interesting. It is random throughout. Try also around :13 and :58. Pretty clear whatever it is. Not sure about the tambourine either, sounds more like a shaker of some sort.
