Nice to see that UK trash bins are as ugly as their New York State counterparts.

I saw lots of decent CDs in one shop today. Of course they were all ones I'd recently donated :)

I visited all these on Tuesday afternoon! and then spent about an hour in Plastic Wax, before taking my tube amp (which blew up) to a guy who fixes them nearby.

Only checking CDs, came away with:

Paul Mcartney - Pipes of Peace (1983 Japan CD)
Some early 80s Iron Maiden CDs
Some nice classical on DG, EMI, Philips & Pearl
    Gregory Isaacs - Boom Shot

Hello all, I’m new. I’m a keen teenage charity shop music hunter. Here is some of what I found recently, all a pound each:
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Legend. Fantastic compilation, wish I’d heard it sooner. It’ll be even better in the summer.
Elton John - Ice on Fire
Shine A Light - The Rolling Stones.
Very punchy two-CD live album from 2008.
Harry Nilisson - A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night
Greatest Hits - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Wow! I brought this only knowing a few of his songs. I’m so pleased I did, it’s amazing. Anything That’s Rock and Roll is my favourite.

    Santana - Borboletta £1
    Clannad - Macalla 99p
AfroReggae - Favela Uprising ( picked it up cos it was on Mr. Bongo label)

    Welcome!

Nice little haul there. The Elton album is good, but hit and miss. The second half falls away somewhat.

Number of teen, action, comedy & classic movie titles (nothing with an age cert of 15+ due to the target audience). With the film club now, so no longer to hand.

    Sorry!

Nah, it was all pretty run of the mill stuff. Don't think anything on my list warranted a £1 buy (maybe the 4AD comp). Just a lucky hit when the shop was clearing shelf space after Xmas/NY. Was in the other day and everything back up to 50p and £1 - just left with all the Robbie and Dido CDs too. All the semi-good stuff now gone.

Fond memories of starting at one end of the Gloucester Road and walking all the way along to where the shops finally peter out - although it looks like there might be even more shops now as it's some years since I regularly visited there!

If you're ever planning to be in Canberra Australia, a charity called Lifeline has three weekend sales each year, mostly used books, but also other things including used CDs, which are usually A$2 (‎£1). I was after what I don't have already, and also replacing remastered CDs, so today I picked up Style Council, S&G, Nirvana, Bob Marley Legend, Talking Heads Naked, Van Morrison Astral Weeks, Rolling Stones GHS, Chris Rea R2H, Police, Beatles HDN and Blue, M83, Neil Diamond, A Camp, Smoke Fairies, Warren Zevon, Gillian Welch and so on. It's always pot luck, but everyone's a winner. The sales open at 9am, but people start queueing up at 7am or so. I also bought a few Blu Rays for A$3 (‎£1.50) such as Black Panther and Shine A Light (the Scorsese Rolling Stones doco - they also had the CD, but I didn't get it). It's my favourite time of the year.

the last month has been a pretty good for random finds - all of this lot for £17

Maximo Park - Too Much Information
    Sneaker Pimps - Becoming X (V2)
Damian Marley - Return to Jamrock
    Sade : Diamond Life
    Sade : Stronger Than Pride
    Sade : Lovers Rock
    Kesha : Rainbow
Interpol : Turn On The Bright Lights
The Milk : Tales From The Thames Delta
All Time Low : Nothing Personal (extra tracks)
U2 - The Joshua Tree (Remaster)
The Rakes - Ten New Messages
    Phoenix - Alphabetical
    The Damned Things - Ironiclast
    Robyn- Body Talk Pt2
The Roots - Home Grown! Volume One
Soul II Soul - Keep On Movin'
Sinead O Connor - Faith And Courage
Ludovicio Einaudi - In A Time Lapse
    Bloc Party - Four
    Goyte - Making Mirrors
The Rapture - Pieces Of The People We Love
Two Door Cinema Club - Tourist History
Marxman - 33 Revolutions Per Minute
    Various - UKF Dubstep 2013

most chuffed with : robyn, and the sudden appearance of a lot of the 2005 punk funk stuff (maximo park, the rakes, interpol, bloc party etc) as i have been really enjoying that stuff again recently.
the album i have enjoyed the most is probably the Phoenix album, not heard any of their music before, but this album is an absolute delight.
also, had no idea of the involvement of the On-U Sound crew on the sinead o' connor album .. its a subtle presence, but its definitely there in the mellow grooves, so very chuffed to have found that.

I've picked up a few target CDs over the years from charity shops: Al Jarreau High Crime (PDO variation), ZZ Top Eliminator, Bilitis soundtrack (later Alsdorf variation), Elaine Paige Cinema and Stages (2 copies of the same PDO variation from the same charity shop!). I've left Best of The Manhattan Transfer and Donald Fagen The Nightfly targets (the latter trashed).

I did see six one time in a record store in Cornwall.

    Freddie Hubbard Sweet Return
    Foreigner Agent Provocateur
    Grover Washington, Jr. Paradise
    Grover Washington, Jr. Come Morning
Ry Cooder Borderline (later PDO copy)
    Eagles Greatest Hits Vol. 2

I took the last two plus

Miles Davis Someday My Prince Will Come (Japan 35DP)
Oscar Peterson Trio Nigerian Market Place (Pablo)
Freddie Hubbard Born To Be Blue (Pablo)
    Sonny Stitt Groovin' High (Atlas)
    MJQ Echoes (Pablo)
Herb Alpert Blow Your Own Horn (Japan for US)
Herb Alpert Rise (Japan for Europe)
The Psychedelic Furs Talk Talk Talk (Japan for Europe)
    Journey Frontiers (Japan for Europe)

They had a black face Getz/Gilberto, but it was trashed.

I used to think George Winston CDs were common in charity shops, but I haven't seen one in a while.

    Just one today (Sue Ryder)

Paul Young No Parlez (Japan for Europe)

The LP is a bit of a charity shop regular, but the CDs aren't too common.

Always love spotting these early CBS CDs because you never know what CD variation is inside.

They also had a copy of Genesis ...And Then There Were Three, which I don't think I've seen in a charity shop before. It was a pre-remixed EMI Swindon copy, not that I needed it.

Yes, as Eric Generic says, Alphabetical is brilliant.

Their best album is reputed to be Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, but it's not a patch on Alphabetical IMHO.

From memory, my CD copy is one of those weird ones that can't be ripped, and it won't play in the car either, which is a bit irritating.

I also have the original vinyl, which is a lovely sounding thing.

These cost £2 each, which is more than I usually pay these days. But they were quite interesting selections – I’ve never seen any of them in a charity shop before:

    Yoko Ono – Yes, I’m a Witch

Bob Dylan and Tom Petty – True Confessions (on the Swinging Pig label)

    David Bowie – Labyrinth

The Bowie and Yoko are going for silly prices online.

Labyrinth has never been reissued so it’s been OOP for a substantial number of years.
