Rush (4), Lizzy (2), VDGG, Zappa, Megadeth, Traffic, The Band, Wakeman, Spooky Tooth, Oldfield, Moody Blues, Martyn, Moore, Hillage, Costello, Fairport, Steely, Strawbs, Martyn, Who to name a few from the rockier end of the spectrum. Worth a look, especially if you have prime.
Great stuff! Just ordered John Martyn - Sunday's Child & One World and Nico - Chelsea Girl along with a couple of Lee Perry / Upsetters Trojan double CDs that have seven 70s albums and more between them for £6.79 each.
Thanks for this! I managed to get 4 things I either had my eye on (Knopfler, ABC, Heaton/Abbott) or didn't even know about (Edie Brickell). EG.
I've never heard of it! Turns out to be ex-King Crimson, a bit of Winwood, and one of them went on to form Foreigner. EG.
From the £2.99 selection I ordered: Fairport Convention - Full House (for the bonus tracks really - I had a previous CD). Steve Hillage - Green (I have most of his LPs up in the loft but haven't heard him in a long while - I'm missing those cosmic vibes, man, need to hear that glorious om riff!)
Was tempted by the Hillage....I know the name, as a producer I think?....but assume it's kind of prog or Eno-ish. EG.
It's kind of space rock/prog with great guitar and early sequencers, a bit funky in places by this stage, usually with some ambient interludes. Would recommend auditioning on YouTube if you're not sure.
Cheers, I think I will do...and I looked up who he'd produced...early Simple Minds (1980-81 ish) of course! Doh... EG.
Thanks for the heads up! Just bagged myself Permanent Waves and 2112 by Rush and Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention.
The £2.99 Amazon CDs are selling quick. Most of the titles people have mentioned buying here have sold out.
Thanks again for the heads up @minibreakfast ! (Still some OMD and Lizzy when I just looked, but as you say, most have gone).
They haven't sold out, they've been put back up to £6.29, or at least the John Martyn and Nico ones I bought have.
One last trip up the high street before a holiday next week up north. Went into Havens Hospice and was chuffed enough finding Queen's Jazz. As I queued up, I saw a gentlemen restocking them, so I went back and found two Doors CDs and The Cars Greatest Hits! The Doors albums are the early special 'target' ones? Next door in the just reopened BHF I found a SACD of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds for £2, hopefully I'll find it on vinyl at some point. There was a lot of 90s stuff, Nirvana Unplugged, Weller, a Deluxe set of Beck's Odelay, not for me but will surely go quickly. I'm turning 18 in a month or so, not sure if I've just been lucky recently finding great albums or I'm getting wiser in my old age over what constitutes decent music
so, the last week has not been too bad for £7.50 : Jamie Principle - The Midnite Hour Chemical Brothers - Live At The Social Various Artists - RAM Records 15*15 Vol 2 Various Artists - Essential Asian Flavas Vol 2 Soulwax - The Mash Up Machine Ottmar Liebert/Luna Negra - Opium (2cd) Wolfgang Fur - I Was A Robot (book) most chuffed about : The Soulwax bootleg cd, RAM (can never have too much sci-fi d-n-b) , and of course the Kraftwerk book for 50p ! most surprised about : i did not expect much from the Jamie Principle album as i checked some of it out on the drive home, and thought 'hey ho - only £1'. added it to the archive and then listened to it properly over the hi-fi - SO SO much better. Weird thing though - last week as i browsing, i was grabbing the Asian Beats/Chem Bros etc, and spotted a Fabriclive cd (#60), quite keen i picked it up and added it to my pile. Then I noticed the price 10.00, i.e. £10. Now in this shop all cds are £1, and so I thought a typo. Took it to the counter and asked. They went into back room to check, and after a few mins : 'Nope £10'. So I left it. Went back today - someone had taken it !!!? I guess the cd market is picking up and the glory days are coming to an end.
that version of War Of The Worlds - sounds even more insanely epic than normal. just wish i had a 5.1 system to make the most of it.
