Yes, it's fabulous - and timeless. Could have been recorded any time in the last couple of hundred years!
Back to familiar ground in north London today and a couple of surprises: A Place To Bury Strangers - Worship (sealed 50p). Ferocious psychedelic-tinged noise rock. Saw them at ULU a few years ago; one of the loudest bands I've ever seen. Audioweb - Firework City. 50p. Pleasing blend of indie, rock, rap and reggae. Follow up to their excellent eponymous debut. The only downside is that it'll entail a lot of moving along after I've accomodated them in my alphabetically arranged shelves.
A decent morning at the local shops:- All CDs, just less than £5 for the lot Vangelis - Themes Tori Amos- Boys For Pele Steve Hillage- Motivation Radio Mike Oldfield- Tubular Bells 10CC- Live In Concert vol 1 Neil Young- Harvest
Love a bit of Hillage! Recently got back into him and decided to get the albums on CD (I have them on vinyl) - never seen him in a charity shop though, had to get mine from eBay!
A bumper haul all from one shop. Sixteen CDs for a grand total of £4. SONIC YOUTH Dirty Experimental Jet Set Screaming Fields of Sonic Love Goo DINOSAUR JR Green Mind Bug PIXIES Surfer Rosa Trompe Le Monde L7: Bricks Are Heavy FUGAZI Steady Diet of Nothing MUDHONEY Superfuzz Bigmuff THE BREEDERS: Pod SILVER JEWS Tanglewood Numbers DAVID BOWIE Fame and Fashion (RCA) LORETTA LYNN Very Best Of Van Lear Rose
I've never been a big fan of Sonic Youth but the Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, Breeders and Fugazi CDs are great finds,. Best of all though is the Silver Jews one; I've never seen any of their albums in a charity shop. More's the pity because the late David Berman was a very original talent.
It's still really quiet around here for CDs (I've donated more than I've bought recently), but I picked up this sealed Squid album (2021 on Warp) today for a (s)quid.
Ooh, decent find. I remember Marc Riley playing this one a lot a few years ago. Not exactly hiding their influences, but worth a quid either way! I think they were at Glastonbury, so they're probably lurking somewhere in the iPlayer - need to finish watching Cate Le Bon's set first, though...
been a quiet few weeks, but today i got lucky. this lovely lot for £4 Deep Purple - Machinehead (2012 Remaster) La Dusseldorf - s/t (2005 German WEA) Gong - Angels Egg Greenslade - Bedside Manners Are Extra Fripp & Eno - (No Pussyfooting) Jefferson Airplane - Surrealist Pillow Banco De Gaia - Maya Banca De Gaia - Desert Wind Global Communication - Fabric 26 most chuffed about : the whole bl**dy lot. i mean seriously, been wanting the Deep Purple cd ever since i fell hard for 'In Rock' and 'Made In Japan', just Fireball to go now. i had never heard of Greenslade, but the cover alone is worth 49p. also, the owner of the Banco De Gaia/Maya cd had turned it into a 2cd set and added the Desert Wind cd ep as a hidden extra. and as for the La Dusseldorf ... well, given I have loved Neu! for a while now, I have been wanting to hear this. never ever seen any of their stuff on cd until this today. as i said, well chuffed with the whole lot. as per the rule for all the folks involved with this game : 'patience is a virtue'.
yeah, i clearly was picking up someones just put out collection of 70s prog/folk collection. there were other gong cds, but i decided to just get the one as it was an emi remastered edition with extras, and thought that would be more than enough. i have quite a few solo Hillage releases, and i think i much prefer the era when he was part of the crew (one of the cds was definitely post hillage, hence i was not fussed). there was a lot of other stuff that would no doubt make thread regulars here go "WTF!!" re me leaving them eg henry cow, joni mitchell, genesis, fairport convention etc. but i know my limits ... i definitely got the stuff that i know i will enjoy. (the deep purple just got an airing, and yeah, thats a playlister !)
Took a quick look in 3 shops on Camden street in Dublin on Monday. Nothing there apart from boyzone type, some indie and classical. I think city centres are too picked over but generally there are less CDs in shops since Covid.
Wow - La Düsseldorf in a charity shop! I love that band. And Angel's Egg is brilliant - arguably Gong's best (although my favourite is Live Etc.) You got lucky today - so lucky that even the stuff you left would make a good haul for somebody!
I’ve been finding LPs and CDs with the same styles of stickers in a couple of places over the last 2 weeks. It seems that someone has a large amount of stuff to shift. As well as the music below I also got Quincy Jones - Sounds and Stuff Like That. I’ve been waiting for a reasonably priced CD to appear but wasn’t going to turn down the LP for 50p. It’s not pictured because it’s away getting cleaned. Really happy with the America debut to replace a card sleeve version from an original albums box set. A nice SHM copy of The Ventures Best of. From the LPs I was very pleased to find Street Sounds 16 for the Viola Wills track that is only on one hard to find CD.
Just make sure not to drop the disc or rub it to try and clean any dirt off it. It will naturally shatter immediately!
