They saw some of us gloating here. Seriously, I think they are either totally out of touch with used CD pricing or are trying too hard to make their monthly sales figures.
ok, this had me puzzled as this edition definitely does not have the extended versions ! so, dug in, and found it : Paul Young - No Parlez

real slim pickings today, chaps. hit about 8 different chazzas - all within a two mile circumference - and they were mostly filled with absolute dreck scored - PJ Harvey - Let England Shake - 99p Crowded House - Temple of Low Men - 50p Oxfam still have that 'fill a bag for £2.99' deal, but there was not even half a bags worth in there, since I cleaned them out of the real gems last week overall rating - factoring in: miles trounced, general exchanging of pleasantries, tedium levels of transaction and how low I had to stoop to see the bottom shelf - 3/10
Nice, I'd have picked up the PJ Harvey CD, never got round to buying that one. I was in one the other day where someone had obviously dumped their entire Crowded House collection, there must have been at least 15 CH/Neil Finn/Finn Brothers CDs and CD singles!
haha yeah man, Crowded House are such a charity shop staple. saw many, many copies of Recurring Dream today. never seen any Split Enz out in the wild, though
I think it may be the preferred version. Worth seeking out for the original mixes, but there are similar versions with the extended mixes.
Picked up a UK copy of Go West's 'Bangs and Crashes' for 99p. Long OOP of course. The second press from '86, so fairly collectible. Not my fav band but some of the mixes are ok and sits nicely with my other original 80s masterings and/or pressings. First decent pick up from a charity shop in quite a few weeks. I used to do the rounds every week but in the last three months or so I've knocked it back to about once every 3 to 4 weeks... Charity shops just don't seem to feel CDs are important enough to rotate. I often ask if they have more that aren't out and I'm usually told yes.
well, today went better than I expected. its very rare I see any electronica stuff, but today I went into one of the few charity shops round these parts that seem to still enjoy a healthy love for the cd format. it was clear that I followed a recent restock from someone who is downsizing their electronica selection. I could have got more, but these were the ones I really wanted. (the others I had little real knowledge of, and so would have been a risk) The Japanese Popstars - We Just Are Client - City Ratatat - Ratatat Various - Its Only A Mixtape (Mixed by Paul Jackson) the one I am most chuffed about is the Ratatat, as I love their 'LP3' that I have had for a few years, and so have always wanted to hear more. I think I saw Client at Glastonbury in 2005 (just before The Kills I think), but I was not really in the electronica zone back then so did not really take much notice, whereas in 2019, their electroclash pop is totally hitting the spot.
This morning. LPs, £2 each: Funkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove James Brown - Reality Cat Stevens - Numbers Stranglers - The Collection: 1977-1982 Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Signs Of Life CDs: Jah Wobble - Betrayal Depeche Mode - Playing The Angel La Yellow Collection (2CD comp) TV On The Radio - Dear Science Paul Weller - Under The Influence (various artists comp) George Michael - Outside CD single. CDs all £1 except George who was 50p.
pound shop score. assuming we're lumping these in Counting Crows - August and Everything After Nina - The Essential Nina Simone Primal Scream - XTRMNTR
Three rare Trojan early reggae compilations. What Am I To Do? (Harry J. productions 1970) Foolish Fool (Clancy Eccles productions 1969 - Clandisc label) Rupie Edwards Hit Picks (1975 - Horse label) All in excellent condition, but £10 each. A good price compared to online but charity shopping isn't what it was.
For 50p today a 2CD remaster of Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds. I have never actually heard this classic.
Well blow me if I didn't go around a bunch of charity shops earlier and actually make some purchases! Roberta Flack - First Take (EU 1995) £1 Fourplay - Fourplay DVD-Audio (!) £1 Both in really good condition. Strangely, with the latter I can rip it but both DVD Audio Extractor and Foobar both create a bunch of dummy-sized flacs rather than proper files. I'll have to actually spin the disc, which doesn't happen very often for me with digital audio! Also picked up these on vinyl: Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (UK 2nd press) £1.99 Electric Light Orchestra - A New World Record (UK 1st press) £1.50 The condition of the records looks ok albeit Bells looks really dirty and needs a good liquid clean.
First Take is magnificent. Her cover of Leonard Cohen's Hey That's No Way To Say Goodbye often brings me to tears, it's so beautiful.
Yeah, it's great stuff. Can't fault getting that for £1. On the other hand, Fourplay is a bit too 'smooth jazz' for me to get repeated plays. I mainly bought it for the novelty of seeing a DVD-A in the wild, but for what it cost I can't moan!
It's been a while, but finally found some CDs worth buying at the boot sales, or rather all at one stall at one sale: Ray Charles: Ray Sings Basie Swings Strong Love Affair The Genius After Hours The Best Of Ray Charles The Spirit Of Christmas My World Ray Charles And Betty Carter (Dunhill Issue) Ray Charles And Betty Carter (DCC Gold CD) Time Life Rock 'N' Roll Era comps: 1955-56 1958 1959 1960 Rock 'N' Roll Hits All near mint and 50p each, also got a pile of Ray Charles LPs, although all the early Atlantics/ABCs had been sold previously, very pleased to get the DCC, plus I get the Dunhill for comparison, my best bargains this weekend were actually a couple of Panasonic DVD/HDD recorders, a DMR EX 77 for £5 and a DMR EX 79 for £2, tried the 73 so far and it works perfectly, I love it that people think these are obsolete and almost give them away.
I bought the only used copy of this I've ever seen at a US thrift. My copy was $1.50, so you made out better than I did. I really like it, though, even the remixes.
On Monday last Julian Lennon- Photograph Smile CD 60 pence Paul McCartney- Memory Almost Full CD 60 pence The Longpigs- The Sun is Often Out CD 60 pence St Luke’s Hospice charity shop in Sheffield
