Now it has come down to an octet of classic UK number one singles.

You can vote for any of the songs in this unlimited edition final.

The poll will stay open for 7 days duration.

    Is this the dark horse?

It has scored impressively in the group stages.

  4. They are all great, but I gave my votes to the 2 best of the best...

I still have an inkling Bohemian Rhapsody will come out on top.

Over decades, some people still see it as the definitive classic number one single.

    Great final.

Three outstanding songs, a bunch of decent ones and only one terrible one!

I'd be happy if any of these win:

    Bohemian Rhapsody
    Bridge Over Troubled water
    Wuthering Heights

  10. Brian Kelly

Brian Kelly 1964-73 rock's best decade

    Bridge Over Troubled Water
    My Sweet Lord
    Bohemian Rhapsody
    Space Oddity

    In order, roughly:

    1. Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights

    2. David Bowie - Let's Dance
    3. David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes
    4. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
    5. David Bowie - Space Oddity
    6. ABBA - Dancing Queen
    7/8. The rest

Very unfortunate that nothing after 1983 got into the final, nor any of the brilliant synthpop and new wave singles, but I guess that's just this forum's tastes.

In the absence of Shaddapa Ya Face and There's No One Quite Like Grandma, I'm wondering what this is. :agree:

    Dancing Queen.

Never any need for Abba. :)

    Voting's tight!

You might have a point here...

    Dancing Queen - Wikipedia

According to that, no-one apart from some ABBA tribute band has bothered covering it!

I'd say ABBA are the greatest pop group of all-time, but that'd probably make some fans of The Beatles mad.

Their ability to create pop gold for a period in the 1970s and very early 1980s is, in my opinion, unrivalled. Dancing Queen isn't my favourite of theirs, though.

It's all subjective. My wife thinks I'm a cloth-eared buffoon for not liking them but I think they are terrible. The occasional pretty melody doesn't make up for the awful vocals and insipid arrangements.

Again, that just how they affect my ears. Glad you enjoy them!

Wow! Awful vocals and insipid arrangements!!!?? Quite the opposite from my perspective and indeed two of their strengths I’d argue.

Why is My Sweet Lord plagiarism? Teach me.

Meanwhile three more quickfire votes have seen the Queen epic pull away again.
