The manufacturers must be big King Crimson fans. Surely there are (I won't say better....) "other " bands out there more worthy of a sound upgrade...??
Lonson, one more time, thank you for the link. Otherwise, we all could be infected with Snake-Oil Syndrome. This disease strikes only humans, so good news is: we all are such...
The head to head listening sessions usually don't pique my curiosity, but these comparisons would. With DVD-A being a hi-rez format, it's difficult to believe that any material upgrade from UHQCD would be a sonic upgrade over the 24/96 stereo mix from the DVD-A. This one did reach my hands. Having attended this show, which didn't come cheaply, was along with curiosity enough reason to spare no expense and have this shipped over from Japan. It does sound better to these ears than the regular RB, but it was also extremely well recorded in the first place.
I didn't mean to rush someone to buy. There is actually nothing to buy yet. I'm talking about future releases and that Sound Quality is worth to consideration. When Dr.Mudd will finally realize that, he could miss his favorite bands.
Please don't be taken in by this ridiculous spin. A CD-R of the same files will play identically. The only thing that differentiates these HQCD's is the mastering.
Definitely worth waiting this out, as the 80's group will have that box set out with DVD-A and Blu Ray audio included.
UHQ wouldn't overperform DVD-A, but come near identical to SACD. I will report on this. I don't have yet DVD-A and Blu-ray playback in my system on the level, as I can play UHQCDs, so it worth to upgrade for me. My goal is to provide people with info...Everyone should decide upon his system.
I think UHQCD is next big thing and all band will be in this format sooner or later. It's just Robert Fripp's personal initiative - he is the one, who pushing industry forward.
What do you mean by that? We all are discussing a comparison test with the same mastering (see Post #2)
Yeah, I'm no sceptic, as evidenced by having the Crimson Toronto gig in this version. My system is equipped to support the hi rez formats. Despite whatever the naysayers might post in this thread, the UHQCD is the go to for this release, but you can't go wrong with the RB either.
There is no consensus that DVD-A is better than SACD. To the extend any High Resolution format is audibly better than CD, both of these would be better than this new technology
Not now. Sorry, using my phone now. It's in the DGM News archives and there is at least one thread on the topic here. It'l'll be out in October.
Yes they are. And DVD-A is no better than SACD by any means. Point is: What can your system play better? My system plays better SACDs and UHQCDs, not DVD-A, unfortunately.
You are making it very hard to take this too seriously. Physical media is on the decline and there's really no evidence that this will reverse any time soon. And that includes vinyl. It's in the increase but we're still talking about a niche format right now.
I am talking about Japanese market only. SHM and HQ CD will be replaced eventually with UHQCD, I think.
Yes what are? Your last post said DVD-A was better than SACD. I am not denying SACD and DVD-A are better than CD. I personally believe they are, but leave room for differing opinions there as well.
Fair enough. But not sure if all bands are moving to another physical media / manufacturing process, versus digital and streaming. SHM / HQ CD now, or UHQCD later.
Does anyone have the Kitaro titles? I'm VERY CURIOUS to hear your comments about 'Ki', which happen to be my favourite album of him
I am Mini LP collector from 1999. For this time almost all LPs released in 60's, 70's and 80's were re-released in Mini LP CD format and then in Mini LP SHM-CD, not to mention jewel case parallel releases. It's a limited editions, but all bands are there - that's how DU and Uni, EMI, Soni and Warner Japan does it. It makes sense to buy starting from 2oo8, thou (sound-wise).
I will buy Silk Road for sure this month. You should be first to comment on Ki - you cannot go wrong with this.
