That is a fantastic set of music. Compilations like this are so
important in understanding popular music, like a family tree of
sorts for the charting, and evolution of music in this country,
and the influences that carried 'across the pond'. A very nice
    collection indeed, @budwhite.

NP... I like Art Lande a lot, his background history as a musician
being a very interesting one. I have both Red Lanta and the
title below. Mark Isham provides reeds, flugelhorn and trumpet.
Joni Mitchell's popular music with avant garde underpinnings
of experimentation and jazz. Hissing... did not come as easy
as other records, but I'm all in now... really like it.

I love those mid 70's records by EC. Last night I listened to
disc one from the Crossroads 2 Live in the 70's box. I settled
back in the recliner just 'after midnight', toasted from a
day of college pigskin, and melted away as the disc started.
July 19, Long Beach Arena Ca, simply a slow sizzle-down of
scorching blues burn, incredible stuff. Another great box,
that I've mentioned multiple times, is the Give Me Strength
box--5 discs: 461 Ocean Blvd, No Reason to Cry (both with extras),
and an expanded EC Was Here... both of these are fabulous.

Played The Who's "Face Dances" three times this week.

I can't get enough of this album. I love The Who but they are a band I will go months without needing to hear, but Face Dances is always in my playlist.

What is with all the hatred for this record? I don't get it at all! It kicks ass!

It's a terrific straight ahead pop rock album. What's all the fuss about?

I'm serious - can you guys explain it to me? Sounds like a killer album to me - and the 3 outtakes on the remaster are as good as the material on the album as well!

I got it when it came out and liked it quite a bit. I doubt I'd ever sit through more than a track at a time again, but that's not its fault.

Finally sitting down with the new Oh Sees, Face Stabber, and the lyrics and everything in front of me. It didn't grab me immediately, unlike the last one, maybe because it;'s such a left turn...it seemed like they were getting more proggy or something, but this seems to have maybe hip-hop influence, or something more recondite I don't grasp. Whatever, it is a great album so far, although I've only really absorbed the first 5 songs.

    The Sound of Surprise, 2001.

After leaving King Crimson for the last time in 1997, Bill Bruford reformed Earthworks. He decided to abandon electronic drums and to put together an entirely acoustic jazz quartet.
If the sonic area was now more identifiable and 'normal', the muscular nature of much of the music from 1998 on was less so, and Earthworks seemed to have carved a niche for itself in a very small genre called "acoustic fusion", Fusion, probably the most idiotic word in an idiotic lexicon of jazz (all jazz is, and always has been, a "fusion") had earned a poor reputation from its posturing electric proponents, and was a tag I had always tried to avoid. Nevertheless, a powerful visceral jazz on acoustic instruments was the ballpark for the second edition of the group, an we set about our work with enthusiasm.

Im so glad Liam is having solo success. I loved Beady Eye but his voice is really back now!

A few years ago I got tired of the Zeppelin discography so I took the outtakes on PG and Coda, put them on their proper records and then resequenced each of them.

I much prefer Physical Grafiti now as a single album of only the new material.

I think Physical Graffiti could have been a stunning single album and ended being "only" a very good double one. It's alright with me, like I said, I still like it that way, but I hardly ever give it a complete listen. And, yes, I prefer In Through The Out Door over it, let's the stoning begin!
