That's such a great record - been too long since I've spun it.

Sometimes a book can be judged by its cover. Overlooked Alt-country pickers Cary Hudson and Laurie Stirratt who aren't shy about deploying an over-driven Les Paul, à la Neil.

Townes Van Zandt Live At The Old Quarter - I’ve been meaning to check this out since @bzfgt and @sami were talking about it a few months ago. Great performances and it feels like you’re sitting there in the club.

That looks like an interesting collection, and I never really thought much about
Aussie prog or if there was any during that time. That is some classic cover art
which has gotten in my head. I keep thinking of that mean wizard from Lord of the Rings
and how he has accidentally gotten lost inside the album cover of the Allman's Eat a Peach.
Get the crayons back out kids... top of the morning to everyone.

I got to see Blue Mountain several times back in the 90's shortly after they formed.
They were quite good as I recall, usually an outdoor fest all-day affair with many
    bands.

The Country Music documentary gave Van Zandt some much deserved air time that was
very interesting and informative; a musician's musician, true to his trade to the core.
That looks like a great record to have, need to look into it.

It's essentially a "best of", and probably the definitive version of every song on there. Absolutely pure- just Townes and his guitar. He never needed any more than that.

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The Smashing Pumpkins, 1995.

Listening to disc 1. One of the most fascinating albums from the 90's.

And now, disc 2. In spite of one or two songs I'm not very enamored of, I think it's one of the best double albums ever (in vinyl format, it's actually a triple one).

The Music on Vinyl (MOVLP138) pressing is absolutely stellar. This has become my go to for AiC. Don't know who engineered these MTV sessions, but damn. This and the Nirvana are both a treat.

I remember when there used to be a copy of this in every used record store. I think they issued you a copy when you signed your lease (along with Blodwyn Pig and the first U.K. album).

This is a great two-fer if you can get it. Gypsy Cowboy is a cool piece of work.
Powerglide is a great record too, never a problem listening to that one.

I had a bit of an hobbling overdrive island adventure today, so I feel accomplished. So that
means Who's Next is my reward, in glorious 24bit HD vinyl, and I tested out the low end too.
I may die and go to heaven before the first side ends, glory be. lol

There are a million artists I have always been aware of or even admire but whom I simply haven't ever bothered to actually listen to. You know how it is - so much music and only so many hours in the day!

Tom Petty is basically at the top of this list. I know the major hits (Mary Jane, Refugee, etc etc) but beyond that I know nothing.

I've listened to long interviews by the dude, I admire him as a musician and a person, I have a general knowledge of his overall career, I know I've heard him and the Heartbreakers for years while listening to Dylan shows....

Time to change all this, no?

Ok, jumping in headfirst its Damn The Torpedoes.

I know Refugee already but that's the only track I am familiar with here....

The first two records are his best ones IMO, and I say that as a lifelong fan who got to see them three times back in the day. There was a rawness, hunger, and unbridled energy on those that was never captured on any subsequent records - and he never made a bad record, or even close to that. Damn The Torpedoes is a great record, and the one that broke them nationally. "Even The Losers" is among his greatest compositions.
