La Villa is great fun to play as well! The problem is that I learned 3/4 of it by ear and by the time I get to the back end of the solo part I start to lose the plot, lmao Virtuality is super fun to play though - everyone needs to learn that riff!
You and me both. My wife can barely listen to Billy Strings without tears welling up. This year started out with us seeing his remarkable 1/18 show at the Cap, and then the bottom fell out.
First time I've heard of OOOH being considered a letdown. To me, it's on the same level, but I do prefer the UK version with the blistering "She Said Yeah" opener and the more eclectic song list.
I liked it quite a bit. Willie has alway been one to play a fairly uneventful set, the difference between the way the songs were recorded and played live isn’t much and the difference from show to show is even less. It would be hard to say it’s much different from the album that shares the cover but he sounded great in 76, the recording sounds like a sound stage with an audience. I don’t know how many of his 153 albums I have but it’s a quite a few and I’ll be reaching for this one as much or more than any of them. I’m glad I picked it up.
After I posted about the “letdown”, I realized how solid side two is. “Play with Fire”, for one example, was, IMO, the best song Jagger/Richards had written up to that point.

I had actually never heard the song until hearing Gov't Mule cover it... Warren Haynes just crushes that one, like it was tailor made for him.
ScoLoHoFo, The Barbican Theatre, London U.K. 7/11/1999. For the uninitiated, Scofield(g), Lovano(ts), Holland(b), Foster(d). Superb interplay, great material, great sound!
It really is, fascinating document. I actually bought this set at the Knit, they used to have a wall of their releases in the front/bar area. I'm surprised you don;t have the LP's
So today, between the marine layer, fog and general time of year seemed to never get started. Looked a lot like this all day. Decide this would be a good soundtrack. It was/is. Fred solo, what can I say?
