Rob Noyes Arc Minutes. Acoustic guitar focused instrumentals. He really seems to go for it on some tracks; at times there’s a sitar-ish feel.
Traded in about 25 £1 charity shop LPs for four new albums. Playing the first one now and grinning like a Cheshire Cat Miles Davis “Live-Evil”
I listened to these two records this morning, both on the Hubro label (Norway). All improvised, with a beautiful atmosphere. The second one adds BJ Cole on pedal steel and he sounds great. I've heard a few other titles on this label but I definitely want to explore further. Nils Økland, Sigbjørn Apeland, Øyvind Skarbø - Pintura 2011, Hubro Nils Økland: Hardanger fiddle, violin Sigbjørn Apeland: Harmonium, Wurlitzer Øyvind Skarbø: Drums 1982 + BJ Cole 2012, Hubro Nils Økland - Hardanger fiddle, violin BJ Cole - pedal steel Sigbjørn Apeland - harmonium Øyvind Skarbø - drums Recorded December 7th, 2011, at Grieghallen Studio, Bergen, Norway
Linn County - Proud Flesh Soothsayer. 1968 garage/psych. One of those that you pull out and wonder "why do I have this" and then you play it and remember how good it is.
Lothar and the Hand People - Machines! From the reissue label: "Lothar and the Hand People emerged as one of the earliest pioneers to mix electronics into rock, incorporating a theremin and synthesizers into their sonic onslaught. Led by Lothar (a theremin) and his cast of digit possessing musicians wielding guitar, bass, drums, and one of the first (and largest) modular Moogs! This LP, their first ever live record, captures them with the passion and energy that can only come from a band's final show before Lothar was forever unplugged." I am unplugging my stereo after listening to this again.
Mrs Jowcol has had a “thing” for BJ Cole since we used to see him regularly on the London circuit in the 80s. Will play this to her later
Had to return the Ray Charles I posted above due to a fault. Whilst doing so I dropped into a charity shop and was delighted to find this in immaculate condition for £1.50. Would love to find Vol. I
You really do fish cane! Beautiful. I had no idea that Duncan’s book was available as an audiobook. Would sure be a great listen while at the fly-tying table. This made my day.
My well-thumbed copy of The River Why plus the current spin, Beck’s Sea Change. Edited to add: @fishcane Love the Peerless. Classy.
Swapped the faulty Ray Charles mentioned above for this. As side 2 of “My Favourite Things” ended Mrs Jowcol surprised me by saying how much she’d enjoyed it
Songs For Beginner's Graham Nash Jerry played on this album. As a gift for his performance Graham gave Jerry an old strat. Jerry put a cartoon Alligator sticker on the strat, Alembic did some magic, and the rest is history.
Been enjoying this set over the past month. Collection of masterpieces! Timeless music - still sounds fresh today. Though There's A Riot Going On is a different kind of animal, it has to be said. Not better or worse, just different. Still haven't heard the 1st album, because all the others are so good!
Is there anyone else loving this guys to death ? Recently I've spinned Argus after a long time. Damn I almost cried. How incredibly good this stuff is. Wishbone Ash will always be in my top 10 bands of all time.
Looks cool. Sounds like it would be right up my alley. Sad About the Times: Lost Tracks of the ’70s That Sound Vaguely Familiar, PopMatters
It's a shame this band is done. Even if crazy Chris brings on new musicians, wont be the same without Cassal.
