Seems like the perfect jazz LP to play along with on double bass, dunnit? Absolutely impossible. Evans is in Bennett's head tempo-wise. The whole disc is rubato and it is constantly changing (sort of the definition of rubato, I know).
I started with on Oldie, this morning: This Tubular Bells came out 50 years ago. Do we think about it? 50 years! I was 13 then. Those were the times when every town (I lived in a town of about 30/40,000 inhabitants) had at least 2 record shops. Well, where I lived, there were 5!!! amazing, right, now? In all these record_shops there was this strange album in the window, no one knew who this Mike Oldfield was, what kind of music it was, what musicians played on it. And then... a record without a voice (or almost...). I already had money in my pocket at that age because, before going to school, I brougt the newspapers to subscribers' homes. Almost always those pennies were enough to buy at least 2 LPs a month. I had this LP too, and fell completely in love with it. My friends thought I was crazy, they only listened to Hard Rock, a genre that I liked, and still do, too. But then... little by little, they came to my house more often to listen to theseTubular Bells. One of them had a reel-to-reel recorder (I think an Akai), and he to made a copy of it on tape. And the others, obviously not?, What question?!? the Cassette!!! You'll think I'm a weirdo, and, I certainly am., but... I still like this album a lot. I no longer have the 33 rpm, who knows what happened to it (but... I have some suspicions...) I had the CD, bought 30 years ago, but I never liked how it sounded, so I got, 8/9 years ago, this SHM version. With THIS .... the dynamics are good. Very nice packaging. recommend this album to you here? That wouldn't make much sense, I think... Who among you doesn't know this one?
Now, now I know that, but good catch regardless lol. I played Crazy Rhythms later on, as I'd already decided on The Good Earth while thinking about Anton Fier.
Disc 2: Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With / Level Five Just getting back to this behemoth box set I bought last May.
Wet Tuna - Lit Than You’ll Ever Be (Fantasy Set) 2023, self-released Whacked out jams as per usual from these guys… Sounding perfect at the moment.
I think Donald Byrd can be safely placed in the top 10 jazz trumpeters of all time. He had style, technique, and the ability to play with and for whoever he wanted. I have the collection At the Half Note Cafe, volumes 1&2 in one album, and it really deserves! You gave me a good idea to start this morning: The Cat Walk is splendid, and even more so is A New Perspective", with, as well as a slew of excellent and famous musicians we also find a gospel choir, Vocals – Four Men (Two Basses, Two Tenors) And Four Women (Two Altos, Two Sopranos). Simply splendid. To those who don't know it... Well, I highly recommend it!
Just check this out from my library earlier this afternoon. Yesterday, I read this piece from Steve Silberman on his favorite version of "Nardis" - which got me on a Bill Evans kick earlier. Not many sadder stories than Evans --- glad he lived as long as he did . Addiction definitely stinks. Jazz Promo Services
Ahmed Ag Kaedy - Akaline Kidal. I like the feel of the stripped down acoustic performances from this singer/songwriter from Mali.
Causa Sui - Free Ride 2007, Elektrohasch Schallplatten I went back to the beginning with these guys after a recent @bzfgt post... I listened to the debut over the weekend and this one earlier today. At first I was a little put off by the vocals, but I really came around. This record is awesome.
Causa Sui - Summer Sessions Vol. 1 2008, Elektrohasch Schallplatten Wow this one is much better than I remembered... All instrumental with some tremendous jams. Fantastic.
