Listening to some recent acquisitions: St. Vincent - s/t Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - 35th Anniversary Collection (4 CD box) Rodriguez - Cold Fact (The) Emitt Rhodes - Recordings 1969 - 1973 (4 LP's on 2 CD's) The Pentangle - s/t debut ...oh, and one not-so-recent CD (bought it in the 90's): The Allman Brothers Band - An Evening with...(live '91-'92) P.S. On vinyl, I've played some Christmas type of things, like: Prokofiev - Lt. Kije (Reiner/CSO) Chet Atkins - Christmas Nat King Cole - The Christmas Song Tchaikovsky - The Nutcracker Suite (Audio Fidelity - the 50's/60's company)
Phish indeed cover Sneakin' Sally... I seem to always be there the night before or after they play it. Fun cover, but they can't match the Meters/Feat for groove.
Recently signed up for three months of Spotify for $9.99... And now I'm buying this. Apparently Lauderdale and Hunter have collaborated on several albums.
Since my lunchtime 4/8/72 Dark Star, I've been getting into Zappa's Roxy by Proxy along with the meat and potatoes of Waka/Jawaka, The Grand Wazoo and Zappa in New York (Bozzio and O'Hearn are beasts behind Zappa on Crusin' for Burgers).
Miles Davis - Cellar Door Sessions Disc 6: the final set on the final night (featuring John McLaughin) Much of this set was featured on Live-Evil.
Listening to some Blind Lemon Jefferson earlier, and now I am onto some Zappa (Understanding America).
Had some great Dead music this morning for breakfast. Later moved on to a little Ten Years After Live at the Fillmore (about half the album), Poco's Deliverin, and now Chicago Transit Authority.
This guy has it figured out! LOVE Rory and Duece is probably my second favorite studio album of his. Against the Grain being first. But Irish Tour? Just got the deluxe 40th anniversary set. amazing!!! Listened to some Railroad Earth the other day and Vusi Mahlasela at work yesterday.
My playlist for today so far: The Smiths - Strangeways Here We Come Genesis - Selling England By The Pound The Waterboys - Modern Blues (from Spotify, after reading a positive review in Uncut) The Decemberists - What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World Lindi Ortega - Tin Star
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Ragged Glory Finally tracked down the vinyl version of this great album from 1990. Warm analog goodness on a cool, rainy Florida morning.
Working my way chronologically through my newly upgraded XTC collection. I am at Drums and Wires (Blu-Ray edition sounds spectacular!).
This is going to sound weird, but I absolutely hate Grateful Dead, except the first Lp. But, stick with me here, really love Jerry's side projects and groups. I don't why that's true for me. I remain, just a bit ashamed of this phenomenon and usually try to avoid the discussion. As a side note I own a handful of Dead LPs, and pull them out and try to like them, really.
John Hiatt - Stolen Moments. I've been in a Hiatt mood the last few days. Played "Riding With The King" yesterday and it was my first album (vinyl) I bought by him back in the day. I do like the Dead, but have to be in the right mood to give them a spin. The live albums they have been putting out for RSD rock. I have them all.
I finally bought Sturgill Simpson's Metamodern Sounds (on sale at iTunes for $6), so I am enjoying some modern Waylon impressions this mid-day.
New Sleater-Kinney (excellent, look forward to seeing them in May) and Doug Sahm's Genuine Texas Groover. Didn't realize until it arrived that Jerry plays pedal steel on a couple previously unreleased tracks.
Aimee Mann-Bachelor No.2 really like this Aimee era and a nice way to start my Sunday listening. The 5th Dimension- The Magic Garden, a superb Jimmy Webb song cycle executed to perfection. liars- Todd Rundgren, his last great record in my opinion. John Coltrane Live At The Village Vanguard to my ears Alice shines on this beauty!
Do you mean studio recordings or live recordings/both? The Dead are really mostly about live performances and exploratory jams are big part of that also. Maybe that's not your thing, but at least give what the band was best at a shot to see if there's something there for you. And no worries, I know plenty of people who can't stand the Dead and we get along just fine.
