That Billy Joel song from Oliver & Company, "Why Should I Worry" just wont-get-out-of-my-head!!! I swear it was on repeat in my head all day today - annoying as hell Tonight it's some unplanned Ramones:
I raked leaves and shoveled dirt all day then came home and had a tv dinner. You make me feel like The Mayor of Simpleton
I saw the David Nelson Band a good bit in the 90's as they played a lot around these parts. I drove thru a fierce rain storm to see them one night all the way over to one of the islands, and ruined my auto--it was worth it. They were on fire back then, and of course, I'm a huge NRPS fan now as I've kicked it into incredibly high gear with the americana thingy over the last 6 months. I started reminiscing my musical tastes over the last 45 years, and americana has been big::ffshoots from the 'country/rock (i hate that term), and the alt country scene thru several stages going back to the 60's. Then there is the folk scene, country blues, with Neil and Robert Z leading the way, The Band, one of my most enjoyable pleasures in music. The list, as you all know, with this music is endless, the family tree is quige massive. And then my love for the Dead, like millions of us, can't be explained, knows no bounds, it just is. This form has crept into a goodly portion of my interests over the entire span, I'm guessing it is my go-to by not only choice, but instinct. Thankfully my interests are far and wide. It's so cool to switch gears for a music refesh. Prog and jazz are big in too, but interestingly I've really delved into hard country recently, which is where my current obsession has led me. I read a lot of musica litterai firma too, and that keeps the somewhat factual, historical interest beams shooting me into hyper-space. It is hard to keep up with sometimes, but is sure is a pleasure--anyway, I'm bobble--heading on the keypad, and I'm signing out. Cheers, and good listening...
The Ramones' most underrated album imo (also their best sounding album from the 80s besides Too Tough To Die) They all look either drunk, pissed off, or about to die on the cover.
The best straight rock album most people have never heard. The Kinks 1976-1984 is my favorite period. I know it's not artistically their greatest time, but for "straight classic rock" awesomeness, you can't beat the Arista albums. Hot damn!
When thinking about the Kinks compared to the Beatles and the Stones, I love that the Kinks were the ones that ended up a true actual rock band. The Beatles, when all is said and done, I consider a pop group in the grand scheme of things. The Stones were/are really a blues band. You get my drift. The Kinks dabbled in pop and blues and whatnot but they crossed that barrier or whatever, imo, and were a total step beyond in terms of guitar-rock. Or something like that. You know what I mean. I can't hear the Stones or the Beatles/Wings ever doing something as heavy as "Destroyer" or "Father Christmas".
you should check out some of his other records such as Whiskeytown Stranger's Almanac, Heartbreaker and his cover of Taylor's Swift's 1989. Heck . . . tons of his different styles are top shelf IMHO
I never said that. I said that Adam McDougall's keyboards sometimes sound distinctively ridiculous, or something like that. And, I'm sorry, I am not ga-ga in any way for Neal Casal. He's good but he's also kind of just there. Chris pretty much single-handedly determines how good any particular show is going to be. I like the Green Leaf Rustlers better. (Note to @Crispy Rob, I bought a ticket to the March show at the Independent.) But I'll still go to CRB shows. There's nothing to see here. Move along.
I’m going to think about hitting that Independent show as well. And also still thinking about CRB at Terrapin in February. I haven’t seen them since the New Parish when they were first starting up. I dig Casal and thought the keyboards sounded good that night...
I have a JGB Show from 1980-ish (Garcia Live 1 or 2) that has those same keyboard tones. And loved NC in the Cardinals and love him as well in the CRB
That would be 3/1/80 with Ozzie Ahlers on keys from GarciaLive 1 - a highly circulated show back in the day because it was an FM broadcast, it was the first JGB show I got on tape back in 1986 or so. He is also on the After Midnight release from a coupe or three days earlier. Both releases are must-own JGB.
Not a big Adams fan but Casal’s playing with him caught my ear, and I like his work In Circles Round the Sun as well.
