Actually, that Herb Alpert cover wasn't photographed in Mexico (as the "Current photos of famous covers" thread revealed).
Jimmy Smith and Stanley Turrentine. Prayer Meeting. btw - You can check out great Blue Note session pictures by Francis Wolff on this flickr page. http://www.flickr.com/photos/84568447@N00/collections/72157603473762750/
Fun tidbit. The cover photo on the A Love Supreme LP originally appeared in the gatefold cover of Crescent, the album before A Love Supreme.
This is the photo used when Lennon was shot ... You can see for yourself. I can't remember which magazine cover it was ( and I own this,go figure ),but they cropped the "WITH THE BEATLES" photo. Interesting stuff on back of photograph.
The Beatles 'cake cutting' photo is from a shoot involving various props/poses, used on various record covers etc: http://www.nemsworld.com/beatles/64whit/64whit.htm (taken from http://www.nemsworld.com/beatles/ )
Great thread! Really enjoying to see how they cropped and adjusted the shading and tint of the original shots to make those iconic jazz covers. Thanks!
