Columbia wanted to use this photo as the cover of "Blonde On Blonde" but Dylan wouldn't let them. so they used it on Greatest Hits" instead.
Great shot - looks much cooler in the uncropped form, partially because the lighting is a bit more dramatic. And it includes GH!
Thanks! The uncropped picture is from the excellent booklet that came with The Concert For Bangla Desh 3 LP box set. I was actually stunned when I realized they used that photo on the Dylan GH 2 set. In the sleeve notes for the 2 record set it says the picture is courtesy of Apple Films.
I had never noticed that photo despite having had the album since the late 70s. By the way, there are two versions of the photo book - one had several more Badfinger photos where the other version showed different artists. I always assumed that the version with more Badfinger photos came second, but I really don't know.
I believe there is only one Badfinger photo in the CD version and LP version I have. Maybe the reissued CD has more Badfinger photos?
I haven't ever compared the CD photo book to the one that came with the LP. I have three copies of "The Concert for Bangla Desh" on original US Apple Vinyl. One of them has several pages changed to show more pictures of Badfinger than the other version while many other pages remain unchanged. I noticed this difference about thirty years ago, and went through the books page by page.
My wife, Sherrie Allan, took the pictures of Joey and Johnny Spampinato that were used on NRBQ's "You Gotta Be Loose" CD. Here's the cover and the massively cropped photos.
I saw the uncropped version of this in a magazine a few years ago (Mojo?) and it's really cool but I can't find it on the internet. Anyone?
I always thought it was wierd that UA used half of this George Jones & Melba Montgomvery shot for his album I Get Lonely In A Hurry.
Here's another NRBQ album that my wife, Sherrie Allan, did the cover photograph for: Froggy's Favorites. The shot was taken in our bedroom! The cropping on this one is pretty minimal. (Actually, now that I look at the photos side by side, I see that the photo is slightly different, but you get the idea.)
