Overrated by who? Pet Sounds, Blue, Blonde on Blonde, Forever Changes & Marquee Moon are albums I rate very highly and I can see the quality in most of the rest, though I don't play them much. I do think these albums deserve the acclaim they get, though lists of 'greatest albums ever' get tiresome with the same albums appearing repeatedly.

Certified Collector here: I'm only missing 26 from the list and the first one that I don't have is #61.

I'm really happy to see so many deserving (as opposed to grossly overrated) albums placing so high:

    "Marquee Moon" by Television CHECK!
"Pet Sounds" by Beach Boys CHECK!
    "Doolittle" by the Pixies CHECK!
    "Horses" by Patti Smith CHECK!
    "Blue" by Joni Mitchell CHECK!
"Blonde on Blonde" by Bob Dylan CHECK!

I think that is a fair point. Other than Television none of these are the relative artists best LP. As for Love and Patti Smith being on the list - I agree that these are auto-generated results.....

Heavy metal seems well represented with one entry at like 150. Is the entire office Punks? There is no Motorhead, one Black Sabbath, no Maiden, no Tool, no Deep Purple, no Angel Dust by Faith No More, no Reign In Blood by Slayer. So I see this as a very limited list. I love Miles, but someone is trying to be show off and pretentious to rank so much Jazz that has sold so little above so much "meat headed" highly-sold heavy music. Does it hurt a Mag's credibility to put Black Sabbath's Master of Reality, Angel Dust, Aenima by Tool, In Rock by Deep Purple, Master of Puppets, etc? That mag seems to think so.
They really like the Cure. They think the Cure's recorded output smokes Sabbath's it appears. I like the cure, but entire genre's (Doom and stoner rock) are dedicated not only to Sabbath, but quite specifically to Master of Reality. Desert Rock's first great band and the producer of all that stuff by Josh Homme was Masters of Reality with Chris Goss. Sleep's Dopesmoker album is all about Master of Reality and should be on this list IMO. IMO. But based on sales, most people aren't putting their money where their mouth is with Jazz.
If any jazz album should rank high, beside Bitches Brew, it is Vince Guaraldi's Charlie Brown Christmas.
I want a less pretentious, not trying to impress people with hipness, list.

My tastes don't coincide with yours or theirs much, but I still think it a bit unfair to call albums over-rated just because your favourite albums or acts do not appear in some list or other.

The Uncut list is grossly generic even within the chosen demographic of their readership It won't coincide with everyone's ideas. I find 12.5% of it conicides with my interests, but really what is the point of another list like this one?

At best it is a shopping list, at worst, a form of ideological control.

I think there are far more interesting, creative and challenging ways of using lists.

These are all good albums, though you can quibble with whether they are the "best." Kraftwerk in the top 20?

But they try to be subtly hipster even in their singer-songwriter soft rock selections. I can see the argument for Blue or Court & Spark over Sweet Baby James, but Hissing of the Summer Lawns? Great album, but not as impactful. Unless I missed it, weird to include Joni Mitchell's seventh or eighth best album but not James Taylor's best.
