Elliot Easton David Hildago Eddie Shaver Marty Stuart Kenny Vaughn Clarence White Mike Campbell ( a Playing for the song hero)
i got to jam a couple times with paul when i was a kid still drumming. he was waiting tables at our family restaraunt. he was "underrated" for sure. i've always said ned doheny was REALLY underrated. that boy could play and only the insiders in la knew. the public never really got to hear him after his ill fated career with geffen/asylum. but here's a taste
far as i know, yep. there could possibly be a rhythm part that isn't? but the licks? all his. i used to sit at his feet in wonder watching him shred lol
..and last one for chuckles, though i'm serious. randy california if not for this classic? but for the fact that jimmy page lifted his entire riff from another song and copped it to use for the intro to stairway to heaven. sued, found not guilty of plagiarism, verdict overturned. pay the man. posthumously. rats.
That's very good. Never heard of him! I'll second Paul Barrere and Martin Barre. Not sure if they would be considered underrated though. Barre's solo from the song Aqualung is one of the best in rock and roll IMHO. Not sure if he's underrated either, but I'll say Bill Nelson from Be Bop Deluxe.
good list. stuart particularly *underrated* given his chops. and eliot easton was indeed. underrated. does campbell count in this category? i dont know anyone that readily doesnt tip their hat to him.
Gotta go with Dave Navarro. He's easy to dismiss these days because he's more of a reality show guy, but his playing on the JA stuff was on fire.
Paul Simon's songwriting and singing have always overshadowed the fact that he's a great guitarist. Stephen Stills is one of the great guitar players of his generation. From what I've read, he didn't always think so. Richard Thompson is widely considered to be a great guitarist, but I still think he's underrated. He's incredible. Terry Kath is right up there with Hendrix as one of the best of all time. Take Jimi's word for it. Dion is a fantastic blues guitarist.
unquestionably. i always have difficulty with topics/threads like these. stills is one of my ALL TIME favorites as a writer and player. i just don't think of his playing as "underrated". but that guy is a hero to me ha
