Of course, we all know about the iconic ones like Meet the Flintstones, Believe it or Not (Greatest American Hero), Happy Days, etc, but what are some themes that arent talked about as much that are still great? I'd have to say the themes from Hardcastle and McCormick:

The Untouchables theme composed by Nelson Riddle was perfect for the period crime drama. I have no idea how it's rated, over or under, but I remain impressed 60 years later.

mostly forgotten TV show with Robert Wagner as a reformed conman. they started off with a big band theme song but then mixed in some wah-wah and heavy drums...very 70's cop show

Yancy Derringer (1958-59). This music is very much like the incidental music on The Rifleman when it comes back on after a commercial break (couldn't find an example -- this is different from the Rifleman theme).

Inside/Out that ran on PBS in the '70s... I want an album of this music!

One of my all-time faves was how they used 'Runaway' to such great effect on Michael Mann's 'Crime Story'...
the song, along with the cool visual editing, totally evoked the gritty atmosphere of Chicago in 1963.

The second season intro, when they moved the storyline to Las Vegas, works even better...

The greatest tv theme song ever is the one for “The Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo”

a man of dreams who guards our things as if they are his own.

Where are the DVDs/BluRays for this classic?

When I saw the thread title, I immediately thought of Hardcastle and McCormick.

So my runner-up is Simon & Simon.

  16. Best chat-show theme song ever, imho (and I’m otherwise not a gargantuan Conan fan).

Hardly underrated. "Welcome Back" went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976. It was a hit.
