In what world does it seem hollowbodies have fallen out of favor? I don't perceive that at all.

  2. McCartney jamming with Jefferson Airplane - on a twelve string?

  3. Not only not unusual for George, but pretty legendary!! It's seen in "Let It Be" (most notably on "For You Blue"), was used all over "All Things Must Pass", is the guitar on "Here Comes The Sun" & "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"... it's a Gibson J-200 (sometimes called an SJ-200) and was used primarily from '68 to '70... pics of Lennon using one in that same era ('68 to '70, including still photos from "Let It Be"/"Get Back") including on the "Plastic Ono Band" sessions- probably had his own, but could be George's... long rumored that Harrison gave it to Dylan & that it is the same tobacco sunburst Gibson J-200 on the cover of "Nashville Skyline"

Pics from "Abbey Road" sessions show both Paul & George playing (left & right handed) Fender Basses- pretty sure that were all Jazz & not Precision IIRC...

This, along with the fact that he went on to play a baseball bat for one specific song in his solo career, reminds me that not all guitar players are always concerned with what make sense for certain sonic purposes. He probably just liked playing the Rickenbacker/the way it looked/sentimental reasons/who knows. Or maybe he did think that deeply and wanted to apply that rhythmic/jangly sound to a different use? I would generally agree, though, this guitar's sound lends itself to rhythm and not necessarily bluesy leads like in CCR.

Maybe not truly bizarre but certainly somewhat weird: Clapton with an ES-350T.

Always thought McCartney looked odd with his 5-string Wal bass he used on the 1989 tour

Same with the Yamaha bass he used in 1979/1980
