The Telecaster was Jimmy Page's basic guitar as far back as The Yardbirds.

Jeff Beck has talked about how that guitar was one he'd gotten from someone else and "left" when he left the Yardbirds, and Jimmy got it, but I don't know about that since I think Jimmy played it before Jeff left. Jimmy then continued to play it as his main guitar until sometime before Led Zeppelin II was recorded (apparently having bought his famous Les Paul from Joe Walsh during the American tour that spring of 69).

If you get a chance to see Led Zeppelin's show, in black and white, on Denmark Radio from early 69, it shows Jimmy using the Tele to great effect for that whole gig.

In other words, him using the Tele was really not unexpected during that earlier period.

  3. I usually associate Carlos Santana with Gibson, Yamaha and PRS Guitars - but here he is with a Fender.

Oddly enough I only play hollowbodies - no 335s or the like for this Frankie.

Can't remember his name but one of the chaps in Teenage Fanclub plays a BHM.

Am on the phone otherwise I'd post a link, but look for Steve Howe and Les Paul on youtube. Mr Howe's skill is just jaw dropping.

Spot on, I think he used it between 62-68 and was it red?

  11. Not associated with guitar - let alone a particular brand - here in the Way Back machine, we note Linda Ronstadt with a 12 string.

  14. Before Keith Richards became grafted to his Telecaster, he often played an Epiphone Casino, back in those early days.

Last time I saw Richard Thompson with his trio he pulled out an electric 12 string for one song. I've never seen him play one before and I'm not sure what brand it was. No photos so far.

Sort of brownish-red top, yes, and a black pickguard. The sides and back of the body might have been black though?

Jimmy Page and a Flying V.
No pics exist as far as I know but Jimmy says he used it on Zep I on "You Shook Me".
Someone wanted to sell him the Flying V and let him borrow it while they were recording the first album.
He says he ended up not buying it but used it on the one song. Wonder where that guitar is now.
I only learned this recently but it came out in a Guitar World interview from a few years ago.

Keith Richards playing bass. Couldn't find a pic that works, but they're out there. Frankly, I think he's a better bassist than guitarist...and he's a darn good guitarist!
