I would say Amoreena, but it served as the opening theme of Dog Day Afternoon.

Asking a jazz fan for an unheralded Elton John song is like asking a vegetarian what's their favorite cut of meat.

"Nobody Wins" is the record that introduced me to Elton, and the "Chloe" suite from The Fox.

"Gone To Shiloh", great song with Leon Russell and Neil Young.

"The Ballad Of The Boy In The Red Shoes", and about half of the songs on Songs From The West Coast.

The original version of "Madman Across The Water".

"A Good Heart" and "The Open Chord" from Wonderful Crazy Night.

    Among many others.

A few covers of this I believe -- Bo Diddley ?
Amazing for a B side -- just shows the high quality of his early material ,

Billy Bones and the White Bird - one of the hardest rocking tracks in his catalogue.

    Check it out!

Yes it is on CD - A UK Reader's Digest compilation "Merry Christmas Everybody". I have it. Whoever chose the tracks for the seasonal themed package relied on the song title - it also includes "Cold As Christmas". Thinking of selling it.

How about an unheralded album? My vote would be "The Captain & The Kid".

I'm a fan of Elton John (sort of--I much prefer jazz and other artists), but again the notion of "unheralded" is a slippery slope. Steve Kuhn is a FAR superior artist to Elton John in every way that matters to me. Now whose songs are unheralded again?

TICKING is absolutely my favorite Elton's song. My God, so good. Nick Cave's O'Mailey's Bar always reminded me this one dunno why.

Always thought this was quite fun... Came out in 1992 but sounds like it was recorded circa Leather Jackets. Perhaps it's just me...

UPDATE: Great Caesar's ghost this is expensive................. Various - The Bunbury Tails

Screw You is fantastic and should have been included on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Tortured is another great track that was left off an album.

Fascist Faces is the highlight of The Fox that nobody ever seems to mention.

The rock version of Where Have All The Good Times Gone blows away the album version.

You get at it when you say “ to me”.
I prefer not to rank. I can love Elton, I can love Monk , I can love Jaime XX or Daft Punk.
I dont see the point in debating who is superior
When i want to listen to Tiny Dancer , Monk is useless to me.
    This is just my approach

( i wont comment on this further so as to not derail the thread)

I'm not a huge fan of either artist but I think "Slow Rivers" is superb and one of the best tracks EJ and Cliff Richard did.
